Nav / On-board Computer Questions

A couple of quick questions I couldn't find the answer to with a search:

1) Is it possible to display the current speed on the nav screen?

2) Is it possible to display instantaneous MPG not average since reset?

3) Do all Z4 factory navs need the 'HIGH' map DVDs?

Thanks!
Dave

1) No
2) No
3) Yes, all MKIV units do across the range that use them.

I was worried you'd ask that. I can't remember :headbang: I read it years ago on Z4um. It's one of the options of service readouts. It may be by holding the OBC button on the left stalk and scrolling through the menus which come up.

Anyone else remember?

You can get both the current speed (although only in metres/second) and fuel consumption (in litres/km) by using the service codes, but unless you can work them out in your head quite quickly they'll be of little value.

This is the procedure (amongst lots of other info) for the E46, which I think is similar to the Z4 functions.

You could perhaps talk to the guys who currently produce the latest version of the MKIV NAV DVD's, they've added a few features in, maybe this is something they could also do? Presumably the data is available on the iBus, so in theory, it could be possible for the NAV computer to display it.

Alternatively, if you have an iPhone or some other smartphone you could look at using OBD reading software to get this kind of info. There's also specific devices the "hyper-miling" types use, they'd perhaps be of interest to you...
