'Fastest Loop Of Manhattan' Driver Arrested

Last Updated 08:21 07/09/2013
New York City police have arrested a driver who they say posted an internet video of himself speeding around Manhattan in just over 24 minutes.

Police have charged 30-year-old Christopher Tang with reckless driving, reckless endangerment and other offences.

The NYPD also seized his 2006 BMW Z4, which is capable of doing 0-60mph in around six seconds.

Tang has appeared in court in Manhattan to face the charges, with bail set at $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash.

The video, Fastest Loop Of Manhattan 2013, was posted anonymously on August 28 and has attracted more than 360,000 hits.

A camera mounted on the dashboard shows the car travelling along the 26.4 mile (42.5km) loop, while stopping for six red lights.

The video shows the car heading south on the FDR Drive from 116th Street to Battery Park and then up West Street back to 116th Street.

A stopwatch superimposed on the screen keeps time as the sports car darts between vehicles in its path, stopping after 24 minutes and seven seconds.

Tang told reporters "I'll comment later" as he was led away in handcuffs following his arrest.

Sounds entertaining. Stuck the link up on here.

At least that Paris one remained anonymous and is still a great watch even now :)

I'm with the NYPD on this one.

Totaly pointless achievment, that could easlily have ended badly.

No skill required to go faster, just be lucky with the lights and traffic and hope you don't kill any one. Book Em Danno. :x

How the holly heck did he manage to stop at the red lights w/o losing control of the Z? Anyone know what the faster speed was? Just Stupid IMO!

Don't look that bad, at least he stopped at the red lights.
x1 I assume they worked out his average speed was too high but looking at other video's he looks like he driving reasonably carefully.........well you know what I mean

The big issue is that if they don't act and stop this ( by locking up the z4 driver, it is going to end up like the EVO triangle...except in a huge city and before long someone will lose it and wipe out a queue of people at a bus stop. Do a track day...moron

All does not always appear as it seems (without doing forensics) ...... Its Time lapse footage.
Rules are rules if you break them then you have to deal with the consequences. NYPD have to take action if his average speed indicates he broke the law. I am not condoning what he did just adding a questioning attitude to the footage shown.
1. When you view the speed at which they/he are approaching other cars (time lapse) Its difficult to say that the speed is that excessive although its clear they are generally driving faster than the other road users.
2. They stop for lights without loss of control for example and obey the rules of the road in that aspect. Non flagrant disregard.
3. Having driven in the US extensively the undertaking /overtaking is not an issue.
4. The road which is not excessively busy. The tunnel section he only passes one car for example.

"Do a track day...moron" I assume you referring to the driver on the video..............
