Natural Idle MOT Faliure

Hi Guys

My E85 failed the MOT today on the Natural Idle Test, CO at 2.90 %vol. I think this is supposed to be sub 0.20.

The Fast Idle Test had no issues.

The exhaust fumes appeared quite smokey during the test (white smoke).

I've not used the car for over a month, which may not be of relevance and the test centre is about 10 miles from home so the car should have been relatively warm, after being parked up for only 20 mins or so.

Never had any emissions problems previously.

If anyone has any advice it would be most welcome. Others on the forum only seem to have had fast idle failures!

2006 2.5i (facelift but older 2.5i engine variant)

If it's a facelift it will still be the later N52 engine, but the lower power version (177bhp v the 2.5si @ 218)
Firstly, if it's been sat a while then I'd suggest a damn good 'Italian tune-up' first.
Also worth checking codes to be sure you don't have an underlying issue.
