Done, and in case I forget, it was stuffed mushroom & fillet steak.

Will be in the Alfa unfortunately, unless I can arrange an alternative, as insurance company are now saying the diff is simple wear & tear, and a common consumable at this mileage.

I'm currently writing a letter of reply, pointing out how silly it was for them to make the assumptions they have made, especially without actually physically ever seeing the car.

The report I provided them was from the mechanic/engineer who did the inspection 2 (including diff oil & FM) about 3 weeks/1000 miles before the accident, yet they're saying the diff could have gone from perfectly normal to knackered between then and the accident, and might have nothing to do with the accident. My engineer is pointing out that you wouldn't damage both driveshafts without involving some damage to the diff unless both sides of the car were hit independently (which didn't happen).

They also say that I didn't mention the noise on the first letter I sent to the bodyshop/insurance. I tried to point out that I only mentioned what I thought were major items - like bodywork hanging off, gearchange not working, handbrake inoperative, EM light. - and that I had a snag list of other things which included a noise from the rear, but which could have been due to bodywork/gaitor rubbing.

They're also saying that 150,000 miles on a diff is very high, but 1) both of my M5s had more miles on that when I sold them, and neither ever had a diff replacement; 2) the diff was replaced under warranty by BMW in 2012 - so it wasn't 150,000 miles old anyway.

Just got to write the letter in a calm manner, including the options of ombudsman and small claims court, as the car is just sitting there costing me £100 a month in insurance/VED, and my trip to the 'Ring was a waste as the car basically sat in the hotel car park 90% of the time after my mechanic had a drive/listen and said he recommended I not take it on the track.

Insurance are saying I should have had it recovered home (obviously at my cost) rather than drive it all the way back - as my recovery service would probably have said it was drivable and refused to repatriate it - or offer to take it to a local dealer where I'd have to pay for the repair myself and then try to claim it back!

Should have just taken the write-off :headbang:

Yeah, hindsight is great....but taking a write off may have been easier, and got yourself a lower mileage M Coupe,t then spent money on things u wanted on it......but hopefully it will all come good in the near future, mate.

You not fancy a weekend z4 rental :D :driving:

I do, but the prices I'm looking at for a 3 day rental are about £500 with a 250 mile limit.

Have also seen a Gallardo for £1100 a day.

Will make do with my 115bhp turbo-diesel power and stay at the back with the non-Z4s. Will mean I can do the whole weekend on a ta k of fuel :P

Taz,
he can be my navigator, for part of it,lol
Plenty of time for others to take him with them, before I take him to Scotland :D

I packed the car with camping gear on the 12th June :o I'm in Greece. Will get back home Friday lunchtime hopefully, chuck in my toothbrush etc, give the car a clean as I gather there's been some heavy rain over the last couple of weeks and set off sometime in the afternoon - French Air Traffic and Easyjet permitting. See you there :driving:
