National Mileage Register - hoax or real?

Just received a letter through the post from NMR (part of HPI Limited) asking for me to provide mileage details of my Z4. It states that the car was registered under my name 31/3/10 (which is correct) and sold/disposed of 4/5/10 - I still have it with no intention of selling! The letter is dated 5/5/10. Something about this makes me suspicious, especially the quick turnaround from my apparent "disposal" of the car and the letter being drawn up. Not particularly keen to phone HPI as I don't really want to enter into any communication until I find out a bit more - anyone know anything about the authenticity of NMR/HPI?
 
I see on another forum someone had same problem Contacted NMR and received apology it was due to clerical error.
 
Might give them a wee call tomorrow. Just a bit wary about phoning companies like this incase they start harassing you even more!
