Sorry, but you talk forum etiquette and then actively slate someone else's efforts to set up a meet. If you have an objection, that try sorting out personably, through PM, and post something far more diplomatic. Respect goes both ways.
Can't help but agree with this ^^^^

It appears that the lady in question even tried PM-ing Craig to check before organising her meet, I don't know how long she waited for a response but obviously didn't get one so proceeded with her plans - nothing wrong with that as far as I can see.

It may not be the case, but the perception is now of Craig trying to supplant her meet by brute force and 'SHOUTING' that 'The National' has priority - surely there's a better way to sort this out

Jaw Jaw not War War

As there are already over a dozen cars signed up for the Snake Pass run people may have already made arrangements and, as the National has only just been announced, I would think the simplest thing would be to change the proposed date for the National - it was a different weekend last year so it's obviously not immovable

Already posted this on the Snake Pass thread but just another opinion. :)

My take on it is that the Snake Pass meet was only announced on the Forum on Thursday and the National on Friday.
It's been suggested that this has been discussed on Facebook when perhaps it may of been better to announce here as a lot us aren't on Facebook.
I did post in the thread that the National has always been first weekend of July and would of been last year if not for the Tour De France.
The OP either didn't read this or chose to ignore it.
In fairness to Craig and Sammyz, they both put in an awful amount of work to make this "the" meet of the year and I don't think it would be fair to suggest that the date for the National should be changed.
I know that there has been discussions before about events clashing........maybe not ideal but I can't see any reason why the 2 meets can't go ahead on the same weekend as I'm sure any regular attendees of the National like myself would of already had it marked up on their calendar.

Again in fairness to Craig, perhaps he could of chosen his words a bit better but it's his passion and hard work along with sammyz that makes the National such a fantastic, well attended, successful event every year.

Just my opinion.

as posted on the other meet's page...

..

This is a meet organised on FB and then opened up to the forums, it isn't exclusively z4-forum which the national appears to be...

So both meets happening on the same day(s) shouldn't be an issue if they both go ahead as currently planned, unless people make it an issue. As you state, the regulars for the National will still go there, others will go to the snake pass meet, and still more won't do either...

It appears that the OP tried to contact Craig by PM prior to arranging/posting about the meet, as I said I don't know how long she gave him to respond, but he didn't get back to her so she went ahead with her plans - personally, I can't see that she did anything wrong.

I'm not planning on attending either meet, so I don't really 'have a dog in this fight' but, in the interests of fairness, I always thought that the idea was that the first person to announce a date for a meet in a particular area had 'dibs' on that date and other people should, out of courtesy, not attempt to compete with it. On that basis, if the National was going to be planned for a particular weekend an early 'placeholder' post to grab the date, even if posted a year in advance, would have been a sensible idea.

Yep - it would be helpful - particularly for new members - could include

The National date, Silverstone classic, English-Welsh meet ,

the problem can be peoples views on how close two meets can take place on the same weekend ..... we've been there before . having said that here is a forum not a car club - with all the rigidty of calendars, regions , organising committees ..... each have their pros and cons .

any way one year i managed to organise a meet on Mothers Day

Hi Folks....yes, I am still alive AND I WILL BE ORGANISING THIS YEARS NATIONAL AS USUAL (WITH JOHN/THOUGH HAVEN'T SPOKE TO HIM RECENTLY, I WILL SOON)
....JUST GOING TO BE GETTING POSTS/NEW THREAD STARTED SOON ON THIS YEARS NATIONAL LAKES AND DALES MEET,
THOUGH WE APPEAR TO HAVE SOMEONE WANTING TO ORGANISE A SIMILAR MEET IN THE SAME GENERAL AREA ON THE SAME FKN WEEKEND THIS YEAR.

Forum etiquite would surely make this a big no no, and if this other meet goes ahead in the 1st weekend in july(as the NATIONAL TRADITIONALLY HAS BEEN FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW) IT will f**k everything up big time!!

Why have people no damn respect!! lol.

WILL POST NEW THREADS SOON/ONCE SPOKEN TO JOHN AND GOT SOME PRIZES IN THE PIPELINE ALREADY, ETC :D

I have to totally agree also  , sounds like a case of CERTAIN PEOPLE getting their knickers in a twist :(

Let's not be too harsh on Craig. He's a lovely bloke and I'm sure he'll reflect on his comment and think that perhaps he was a bit spikey on this occasion. He's a Scot at after all so we have to cut him some slack!!

It's nice we have two passionate people on here trying to organise Zed meetings. Hopefully they can accommodate one another. After all if you've done a few nationals like I have sometimes it's nice to have a break and do something different.

Who cares, run both - it's not a popularity contest.

Also - this thread isnt a great place to discuss a 2015 meet.

Exactly

But less of the racist comments OG, we can find out where you live :poke: :D

This is the best place to have this 'discussion' though, rather than on the meet threads themselves...

As someone who has attended and enjoyed the last two Nationals I'm concerned about the nature of some of the responses to Craig's comments and I want to offer an alternative view.

You'll see that I posted straight after his post - last year Steph and I organised a lot of runs in the North East and we hadn't thought about the conflicts this might create on the forum. We went ahead without that in mind. I learned later that it effected other people's planned and intended runs and was disappointed as I could have sorted that out easily - had I thought ahead. So when I read through Craig's post I was laughing and seeing it as another example of relative newbies doing the same. For me it was a given that, once the person who had posted an alternative meet on the same weekend was made aware, then the National would go ahead as it always has (bar the alternate weekend last year, due to La Tour) and the other event would be rescheduled - for me it was a given.

Secondly, from what I've seen at 2 Nationals I can vouch for the fact that Craig takes on an enormous responsibility for the National being a success every year - posting and organising the event, booking campsites and liaising with members over pitches, collecting monies and paying deposits, organising the hotel's Friday meal, liaising and planning of the routes with sammyz, contacting all members to coordinate attendances each day and checking that everyone is ok at the campsite and on the runs. On the Saturday he collects money from all participants for the evening BBQ, then sets out to go and buy everything needed, brings it back and we have a terrific (and reasonably costed) social night. then there's the raffle - heaven knows how Craig gets all the stuff in his Zed - last year he tried to cut down the number of prizes - there were still a dozen or more! So he's around everyone selling raffle tickets through the weekend and then does a draw where nearly everyone gets to be a winner, the first year we attended he wrote up the event and had photos and multipage reports printed in 2 national magazines and so it goes on. . . .year after year.

Craig has a genuine commitment and drive to see all these things through (some other folk do help him out) - in the main he's been the driving force behind this 'National' Z4 Forum Event year after year. He and John received a present as a formal thank you from the forum last year for their efforts over the years and it was very well deserved. There's little wonder he's a bit sensitive over the National!

For myself and for many, I would say, this is a special Forum event - THE National Z4 Forum event that Craig has been prepared to take responsibility for and see through to completion and success year after year. It's understandable then, if his reaction is one of frustration and (what I took to be) light-hearted annoyance (he even posted lol on his original post). I can see how some folk would see the capitals as aggressive and un-necessary but to me it was a frustration born out of much effort and commitment to this special event year after year tempered with a laugh at the end (hence the lol) and remember, efforts on our behalf!

Special events such as the National do not happen easily - they take a committed and single minded approach and having organised quite a few hoons now (including our Northumberland Castles and Coast which had 17 Zeds) I feel it's easy to under-estimate what's needed to make such an event (A full weekend remember and there were 34 Zeds in 2013) successful.

I think we are very lucky to have people such as Craig and Sammyz, prepared to offer such efforts so we can experience this special National event. I don't want to lose it and the date has been set for years (last year being an exception) and should be recognised as a special event on the forum calendar. For these reasons, for me it takes precedence over any other event and I can understand completely Craig's passion and initial post.

Just as a reality check - I think, having talked about it to Steph, I'd even put my name down for the 'other' event! How daft is that!

:driving:

In the majority, I agree with you Paul but I still hold that, if the National is to have a special status amongst meets, then advance threads for, say, the 2016 & 2017 Nationals could be created now

The threads would only need to contain a title with the expected dates and a 'details to follow' body text. Once created the mods could lock them and make them a sticky in the Meets/Events/Road Trips forum. When the organisers are ready to fill in the details they can ask the mods to unlock the thread and they can edit the placeholder post to add the details

You're accusing someone of being a keyboard warrior whilst appearing to be one yourself. Hopefully, Sarah and Craig can shake (virtual) hands and settle this accidental clash of dates like adults because nobody is covering themselves in glory at the moment.

Agree with that Perry, great suggestion & NOT a criticism of people's past efforts. Ownership, forum membership, & organised meets, are sure to increase over the coming years so lets support ALL the folks who are prepared to give up their valuable time to make it happen.

Whilst I appreciate the reasons for your response Seb, this is your third post on the forum and all have been to do with this currently hot topic... Tbh this sort of threat on an open forum is out of order

Oh, and if anyone would care to search Craig's posts you'd find that he has an uncanny affinity for the caps button - completely ignored by almost everybody because it's kind of like having a mate who is a really noisy eater, you just deal with it

Who cares really if there are two events on at the same time and nothing is really that special Paulgs1000! People can make their own minds up which one they want to attend, SIMPLE AS :D
