Nakamichi Dragon

Nice tape deck. :thumbsup:

We are still running the Pioneer separates we bought in 1992. Much as I love my tablet, when on the move. When sat in the lounge, the old setup works perfectly fine. It's been used pretty much every day since we bought it, every thing still works and the amp could blow a small hole in the wall, if it's ever turned up full. :D :thumbsup:

(It's been I while since we used the Tape drives mind) :wink:
 
What a relief it's now safe to talk about hifi separates again lol
I'm guilty of buying the stuff that goes obsolete - have a great Technics Amp but also have a Sony 300 CD juke box player and Marantz DAT player - which has probably only run about 20 hrs total in its life

Just bought a new Denon deck though and expecting lots of vinyl from Santa

Think there may be a bit of a digital backlash rising?

I have a whole load of DAT tapes still wrapped in their wrapper if you need some, bought them when I had a dat drive for backup purposes.
 
Just given my electronics-expert (usually designs & builds medical devices) mate the last of my old (1988-ish) Technics gear to refurbish. The only bit I've got left is an SU-Z2 amp, and I've been given one of his upgraded Audiolab 8000S (from when the Chinese bought them, but before they started using crap components) in return.

Still undecided whether I'll keep the Audiolab or have the Technics back onces it's refurbed.

When I bought my last sailboat (Catalina 30 sloop) in 2006, it included a Nakamichi stereo system which the previous owner had installed. He was devastated when he found that it would play only store-bought CD's, and not his extensive collection of home-recorded discs, after investing over $3000. My wife enjoyed listening to music on the boat much more than actually sailing (or maybe it was the wine which accompanied the music ?) I have fond memories of the quality of sound which the system produced.

Should imagine the amp would benefit from some new caps about now if they havent already started leaking?
Always a good idea to take a butchers' inside now and again for a check... :wink:
 
Think one of my sons had some work done on them ca 8 years ago, virtually unused since.
Now I need to dig up some speakers and record deck see how it all goes. Thats the problem with un finished projects, can"t remember where all the parts are. Been way too busy with watches lately, maybe time for a change

Sounds like a plan!
But as mentioned - would suggest a quick look to check for leaky caps if unused for so long and maybe in both boxes too :thumbsup:
standard practice for me and has saved some pieces from going ker-plup in the past.
 
Does anyone want the DAT tapes? They are gathering dust (in their wrappers) so might as well give them to someone who can use them.

dont use DAT anymore but still have an old sony portable.
how much do u want for them and what brand are they?
edit: prob more importantly what spec/length are they?
 
I don't want anything for them and they are Maxells.

I am back in NL in January, need to drive to Breda to get a passport sorted as the wait time in London is so long that my passport will have expired by the time I get the appointment.

Yep. Its a sony portable dat player/recorder. Used to use it for bootlegging gigs years ago. Did pink floyd at earls court back in the 90's with it as well as many others :wink:
What length/duration are the tapes?
And thats very generous- i'd certainly cover your postage/packing costs if ur just looking to get rid...
 
I abandoned tape some years ago, but I can do you one earlier - I have two vinyl based systems.

Looks like a serious system. Are those speakers California Audio?
