Hi, New member in need of a little assistance....
I have a 2007 3.0Si coupe, and I believe the vac pump has failed. Symptoms are no servo assistance to the brakes, and when I've removed the vac pipe from the servo there's no vacuum there at all.
I've checked the pipe fully from servo all the way through to the pump and there are no leaks at all.
The check valve is ok as I can blow through it, but not suck.
I believe pump failure is quite rare on these?
Due to time issues, and struggling to get garages to actually provide with a quote to replace the pump, I'm going to give it a go myself....
The tools are 100 quid, and the pump can be had for about the same price. I've read a few threads of other people changing the pump, and seen a few YouTube videos.....
Has anyone on here replaced theirs themselves? Any issues you came across?
In my head the process is.....
1. Remove inlet manifold to allow easy access to the pump
2. Remove aux belt and tensioner(will replace)
3. Remove the pump seal from the front of the block using special tool.
4. Remove spark plugs so the engine can be rotated from the crankshaft.
5. Rotate engine until holes in the vac pump sprocket line up with the 3 bolts holding the pump in.
6. Insert special sprocket tool and undo the main bolt holding the sprocket to the pump.
7. Undo the 3 bolts holding the pump on and remove it from the rear.
8. Fit new pump and torque up the bolts and sprocket with special tool holding it in place.
9. Refit everything else and hope it works again
Does that sound about right?
Sorry for the long post but I appreciate any help anyone can give.
Alternatively if there's anyone near Stoke on Trent that wants to do it for me that'd be great
Thanks
