Evening all, I am well aware that oil has been talked about a lot on this site, however I am not sure if much has been said about potential impact on reducing engine idle noise/ lifter rattle etc.
My vehicle is still under warranty but it seems to me that this lifter issue will not be sorted by BMW these days and the problem is likely to come back.
I want to do a cheeky mid life oil change (I am aware that if I want to obtain a BMW Mondial Warranty) all Service History should be BMW, however providing I keep a seperate record of my own oil changes how will they know?
Has anyone played around with oil grades? any comments on impact on engine noise?
As far as I am concerned any LL04 oil is fine to use, however whilst the 0W-30 may get to the lifters and other areas sooner it is also more likely to drain away, so I was wondering whether to use a 5W40 LL04 oil? might take longer to drain away and should provide a better barrier than thin oil at temperature?
Any experiences from peoople would be much appreciated.
