N52 oil capacity?

Evening all... So changed my oil today.
Let it drain from sump for a good while, and suctioned out oil filter residue.
I drained out a little over 5 litres and the dash sensor before read 3 bars.
So my query is.... I've stuck nearly 8 litres in now and the dash level still reads 3 bar.
Does anyone know what the capacity is on this engine for oil? And is the sensor accurate?
And yes.... I've run it to warm up and reach operating temp before checking levels.

6.5 litres I think, 8l is to much

Yep, it's 6.5litres-drain it out & refill.
The level sensor seems to be a little glitchy sometimes but it should catch up eventually.

ye 6.5 litres, or 6.9 us qaurts

5.5 litres should give you a digital reading of lowest bar / top up

Thanks gents..... To update I just took it out for a good 10 miles just to make sure it was up to optimal temp... And the level is now reading all 5 bars... Doesn't read over so all looks good and it's done driving great

You've put far too much oil in! Should have measured out 5.5l, let the car get up to temp and it should read low, then add the final litre.

I hope for your sake you've not driven it with 8l of oil in. That will create a high oil pressure and potentially cause failure of some of the seals. Get it home drain it fully, fill with 6.5l. The electronic oil gauge only works best once the car is up to running temperature etc. Fingers crossed you've not caused any terminal damage.

Oil drained and refilled with 6.5 litres.... Thanks for advice chaps.
What an absolutely crap idea to have no dipstick and a glitchy electronic sensor though!
Apart from that I love my z4 :driving:

So replace the sensor. The concept takes some getting used to, but I have never had a problem draining and filling. The two times I've had 'professionals' do an oil change, its been under filled...

Mercedes roadsters have the same system. I had to have my brother (amg slk 55) explain to me how to check the oil!

Actually we had my Z4C next to his car and it was surprising how many things were similar!
