N52 Modifications?

Hi, I don't know how old this thread is, but was considering doing myself. Did this effect your MPG at all?

Not that Ive noticed, possibly a 1mpg drop at worst on my 30 mile round trip work commute but ambient temps and traffic can have as much effect

I test the performance of my 23i by seeing if i can hit 60mph in 2nd gear, rpm redline. If it can't i know it's off a bit.
I think the alternator can drag 10-15 hp from engine, reason why the intelligent charge switches of the alt. on acceleration, i assume.

I certainly notice a difference with a K&N filter, having swapped back and forth with Bosch paper. Ultimate would be no filter.
Also bit of induction noise if the concertina connecting pipe removed to the intake.
Better off spending cash changing oil regular, helps the vanos perform better and good coils and plugs.

Had mine done by celtic on a dyno, they spent a lot of time tweaking it and managed aroun 12BHP if I remember correctly, I can t remember the torque figure (which is more important).
Might not sound like a lot but the power delivery curves on the car changed a lot and matched the manual gearbox a lot better.
Nowadays my ride is a 35i with over 420bhp and far too much torque.
Given the choice for a hoon across dartmoor the mapped 23i is way more fun, 3rd gear revs averaging around 60% - the 6 pot soundtrack - simply brilliant car.....
Note -
Torque = accelaration
BHP = influences top speed
