N52 engines - Soft rev limiter?

Hi all,

Do the N52 engines have a sort of soft rev limiter that kicks in before the main limiter? When making swift progress in my zed (N52 2.5i) I've noticed that the engine seems to back off considerably at about 6000rpm, with the redline being at 6500-7000rpm. Or do I have a poorly zed :( lol.

Cheers :)

From experience with mine and the comments of others it appears that in 1st gear the limiter actuates earlier then in the other gears. It's been suggested that due to the rapid rpm rise in first, the early kick in is necessary to prevent the momentum/inertia (whatever the correct terminology is) from taking the revs past the redline.
