N52 Engine Oil Consumption

Hi Guys after 4 months of zed ownership my car a 2006 facelift 2.5i with 90,300 miles on the clock with the N52 engine, beeped at me yesterday and briefly showed a yellow oil warning light and the digital dipstick says I need to add a lire of oil, this later cleared and on checking the oil level it was no longer saying add oil. Is this because its just on the limit and not on level ground or could it be a fault, I have covered about 2.5k miles in 4 months so would that be normal oil consumption levels or an indication of a problem? There doesn't appear to be any leaks and no blue smoke from the exhaust.

Anybody any experience with this engine?

I certainly wouldn't worry at all but perhaps next oil change try some Millers CFS & see how you go , 5w 30 or 5w 40

[post]1362719[/post] You say you had a new car 4 months and are only now checking your oil. This is alarming id hate to be the next owner of your car you should be checking your oil every 2 weeks to be safe. Dont rely on some stupid elecrtronic sensor to tell you to top your oil up. I

I never said I have had the car 4 months and never checked the oil level, I have been checking regularly for the last 2 months since I learned from this forum after a post that I have a "digital dipstick" I wanted to know if 1 litre for 2500 miles was normal or excessive. With a digital dipstick you have to rely on your sensor there is simply no other way to tell your oil level or amount to top up by. If the manual says 1500 miles per litre of oil I'm happy mine is ok. With the oil level sensor there must be a point where it's ok then the next step is add 1 litre of oil I just wondered if this is affected by things like the car not being on level road etc, anyway thanks for your input.

Hi, you can see the level going down on the digital dipstick before the add 1 litre warning light illuminates

Exactly. The book says to add 1 litre of oil when the light comes on. There is still plenty of oil around the engine when it hits the minimum on the dipstick/sensor.

Consumption does seem to vary from car to car.

My first Coupe never needed a top-up in 8,000 miles, but my current one has used most of a litre in 3,000 miles. But as someone said this isn't considered excessive.

At least is doesn't drink it like the "Allegedly" superior M54 engine in my 325ti - mind you at least it has a low-level warning light AND a dip-stick. Probably just as well given it's thirst!

Hi I have a 2.5 se and I get a puff of blue smoke on start up intermittently also I had to add 1 litre of oil after 1400 miles but according to other posts it sounds like Zeds use a bit of oil is that right?I've only had this car 2 months it's a 2006, 30,000 miles on the clock looks and drive fantastic do I need to get it looked at

Hi, if you've only had the car a short while I would monitor the usage to get a more accurate picture of consumption.
With such a low mileage it may have been on lots of shirt journeys, that's not good for the ccv :?
