personally i think this forum would help, i would even give links to these discussions

Well I will see how it goes with the first email and then follow it up, dont want to cause any trouble for the forum if BMW get annoyed?
not sure how the forum could get into specific trouble... we are only stating our experiences with our cars.

I wasnt sure either but didnt want to cause a problem for anyone. I was really happy with the car till this started going wrong all the time.

I am extremely tempted to go and buy another Honda Civic Type R, I had one previously to this, was doing 30,000 miles a year give or take and it broke down once in 3 years and that was the day I sold it the battery died!

Ive done 3000 miles in the BMW, its been back to the dealers 3 times in 5 months and its still not right. Am I being unreasonable to expect a so called premium brand to have reasonable quality?

Annoyingly mine still hasnt done it again so I have been unable to get anything done until it does and I can take it to the dealers so they can here it themselves (their words).

As above mention this forum and my initial thread.

As long as you don't threaten them, you are only providing information that backs up your problem. BMW know changing only the HVA's may not fix the problem, but it reduces their costs if it works.

OK, another update. Since having had the HVAs changed three months ago the noise has become more apparent again. Finally managed to get it to the dealers today while it was making the noise and they agree it hasnt fixed the problem.

Car is booked in, I dont think they quite know what there going to do with it yet but I have asked them to raise another PUMA in the hope I will get a new cylinder head.If they just replace the HVA`s again then I will be foaming.

Fingers crossed.

this is the sort of thing which'll put me off getting a z4 ....if I buy one privately can I buy any sort of warranty to cover this eventuality ?

This is what puts me off getting a Coupe.

BMW wouldn't acknowledge this when I spoke to them unless I owned a car that had the problem.

Guess my only option would be to get an approved with warranty.

Would 3rd party warranty companies cover this?

I'm not sure I would trust a third party warranty to cover this, but from my experience the BMW warranty is only slightly more expensive that say from Warranty Direct.

Since I had the lifters done it does it much less and I now think sod it, I will only be keeping the car for another 18 months anyway so its highly unlikely to be an issue.

BMW UK were as much use as a chocolate teapot though, wont be buying from BMW again.

Havent decided what car to get next yet though

Excellent result Andy

You'll have to keep us updated.

Was yours a new car warranty or used?

Dan

But has it solved the problem? or will it come back?

Why the cylinder head? has itr got a crack in it or something?

The cylinder head has been modified to include non return valve. Mine was changed two years ago and is driven even less now but problem has never returned.

When was the head modified? I have a very late model, I have still experienced this problem, only once though

I don't know Taz, I think it may have been late 2008 as my head was changed April 2009 so it was out then.

When was yours built (not registered)
