N52 DISA Valve Error

Hi people,

Just read a code on my Z4 regarding the DISA valve:
2AAC: variable intake system 2, self diagnosis

As far as I understood this points to the small DISA valve.

After looking into DISA threads and videos it seems the problem can
lead to serious engine damage so I wanted to see the forum concensus on this.

How quickly should I react? And are rebuild kits worth it and if not which
manufacturer DISA should I be looking into?

Also are there any how to threads for E89? Member Bing had one but the pictures
don't show anymore.

Thanks in advance!

I had this last year, at the time I wasn't sure as to which was which, so in the idea of preventative maintenance I decided to change both.
There are no E89 specific videos or how-to's out there, or at none I could find.
I followed a video from an E9x which i assumed would be fully correct, and for the most part it was, BUT on my N52B25 the Crank Case Breather pipe stops the rear disa from coming out without removing it first, let me expand on that....
On the E9x you can save removing the inlet manifold and instead remove the alternator and access the rear disa by feeding your hand in from behind and taking it out. Unfortunately the breather pipe is a different shape on our cars and is in the way completely. I didn't realise this at the time (as you cant really see) so when it got stuck I just pushed it a bit harder and broke the connection. The car being the age it is im not surprised it broke as it was very brittle.
So the short version is I'd recommend removing the inlet manifold and expect to replace the brether pipe as well due to fatigue.
There are a number if videos on YouTube to show you the process with removing the inlet manifold, so I'd suggest that route.
So in the end I bought the two disa valves, the Breather pipe and the inlet manifold seals, well worth the job

My original post on it....

Thanks AnubisZed! I did read up on your post and good to have this insight
as there is not a lot of E89 specific details. Which DISA parts did you get?
OEM or something else. And do you have any info on rebuild kits?

These are the ones I bought.....
And

And this is the breather pipe... (Ignore description , it is the correct part number for the 23i)
And the intake manifold seals...

I did look at a rebuild kit, but not knowing what was wrong until I took it out I thought it was prudent to just replace it, at least that way you do it all in one shot.

Thanks again for the quick reply!
The new DISA valves holding up well so far?
I read a lot of things on the difference in brands and productions but the final conclusion
is neither here nor there, and the price difference is ten fold so a bit difficult to make a decision.
The part seems simple enough and I understand the markup but still...

Might give these a go then. Thanks once again for the all the info and experience!
Did you have to remove the throttle body in the process?

Just to make a short write up on my experience on this issue:
I ordered the parts as per AnubisZed's recommendation, pipe, both DISA
valves and the seals (throttle body and intake manifold).

When we managed to get to the DISA valves it showed that both of them
were shot even though the error was pointing to the small DISA valve so
its a good thing the big one was ordered as a preventative measure.

Throttle body and intake manifold seals were not in the worst condition
but once in there it makes sense to change them and clean all the mating
surfaces as the seals are not that expensive.

It took around 3-4 hours doing it for the first time and not rushing.

So now there are no present errors, car seems to pull a bit smoother
with a more linear acceleration, but one would not notice there is
an obvious issue without seeing the codes.

Thanks to AnoubisZed for the info and support!
