N52 2,5 oil consumption

2.5 and 3.0 are essentially the same engine just with a slightly longer stroke.

Just for the record, my 2.5Si uses about 500ml per 1000 Miles - and more if I am really pushing on. It doesn't smoke, has no issues with emissions and I run it on 5W30. A low ash oil prevents a lot of the carbon deposits and the higher oil smoke temp compared to a mineral oil will help as well.

I did try it on 10W30 to see if this would reduce oil consumption and it made virtually no difference. I would stick with the published viscosity and just change the oil at the correct intervals.
From what i have read, the oil rings on my engine, N52B25O1, are thinner and carbonize faster and therefore uses more oil.
The engine that came in '07 with a black cover have different oil rings and do not have this problem.
This is however just info from Google, and i could be wrong. But it sure is a plausible explanation.

That would make sense. Mine's an 06 Si and they do have a reputation for using some oil. It doesn't seem to affect them though!

N52 2,5 engine was using 1 liter of oil every 1000-1500 km with 5-30 viscosity.
I am now using Castrol Magnatec 5-40, and oil consumption is less with 1 liter per 2500-3000 km.
Would like to decrease consumption more.
Have you tried Castrol 10-60?
Change oil every 10k km so i don't think it have to be LL4.

If you have already reduced consumption simply by changing spec & you are already considering a second switch is it not worth trying a better quality oil ?
Ive only had 2 cars in the last 20 years that "burned" or consumed oil , both were Vag turbos , both everyday commuter cars ( not raced )
Switched to Millers prompted by a VW forum post & consumption ceased , since then ive never used any other oil but Millers in any of my cars & my understanding is their products are now even better
Worth trying one of their triple ester oils such as CFS 10w40 https://www.millersoils-shop.co.uk/cfs-10w40-engine-oil
I notice "Skelters" above is on the Nano Millers which is a triple ester i believe :? on all Si Zs ive owned 5w30 Millers Trident has always been good enough but then ive never had one that consumed oil like washer fluid :D
Thought i was using a premium product, maybe its only a premium name... :)
Thanks for the advice and link, will try Millers 10w40 next time.

When I got the car 4 1/2 years ago it obviously had oil in it and I left it to be serviced for a couple of months as tyres, bushes and the front wishbones were more urgent.

During the couple of months I did use 1 litre of oil even though the car is an 07 engine with the black cover. No idea what oil was in the car when I got it.

I also read up on the many threads on here and decided on Millers which was purchased from Opie Oils. I think someone else used the Nanodrive oil and was happy with it.
