Just doing the usual check over of the new purchase...

Smokes more than Fag ash lil

See pic- is this oil around the top of the engine symptomatic of the valve cover gasket needed replacement?

Looks like its been done before with poor sealant works

Looks like the one I did for the lad in Norwich.
Could be the main gasket or the one round the servo motor.
Also, check the front where the cam sensor protrudes through, just inboard of the filler cap. If that leaks oil then it gets into the plug socket too.
Be warned, if you look up the number for that seal you actually end up with the housing for it. Took me a bit of searching to find the seal.

Was it difficult to do compared to the m54?
Nope, just a faff trying to keep two separate seals in place when you try to refit it.

Be warned! I bought a pattern seal and it wouldn't fit. The seal slots into a groove in the top cover. On the pattern one the section that slotted in was too long so it didn't sit fully down. Ended up having to get a genuine one to be certain.
I suspect Tug may be able to assist more as I'm still a 4-pot Noob. :D

I had the same problem with the rocker cover gasket on my 4 pot tried the cheap and cheerful route Waste of time went to the stealers got robbed but at least the leak has gone

Cheers gents

Enjoying getting to grips with an engine that’s deficient to the tune of 2 cylinders
