N46 engine - closer to a 120i than a Z4?

The only fly in the ointment I can see is although the filters etc from the mighty E46 318 (of which I had 2 both pre & post-facelift) and 316 both the same engine just a different state of tune IIRC might be matched to the huge perfromance already on offer by the mighty Silver Bullet it will be the ducting that is different and might not match up and the same could be said of a straight 6 kit.
I guess the only thing is try and get something on sale & return and try it or make something to fit having seen some of the kits I'm not sure it would be that difficult. As Adamski Nosa has a cone filter fitted (does his good lady know yet?) and he loves the noise it makes.

No she doesn't

I looked into this a teeny bit when I had a 2.0. A different air filter is the easiest / cheapest solution. The problem with all of the after-market kits is that on a 4 cylinder they make it sound like a chav mobile. The 2.0 is a remarkably smooth sounding engine for a 4cyl, so I didn't want to ruin that with a fart exhaust.

Save up, and get a 3.0? The sound generator will get you most of the way there, then you can tweak the sound with relatively plentiful aftermarket parts. I'm on the hunt for a GruppeM!
