Mysterious Switch

Hi Guys,

Who would like to help me solve a puzzling switch that has been retrofitted to a Z4 I recently bought?

When I first drove it home I pressed it whilst on the motorway and it made a horrendously loud bleep until I turned it off, I tested it again the other day and the light just turns on red at first but then goes amber and green within a couple of seconds, no loud sound.

Apparently in the boot there is a red wire that shouldn't be there, leading to a box fitted next to the battery.

Please have a look at the pictures and let me know what you think

Cheers,

James

Possibly a radar sensor? Don't suppose you were near a speed camera on the motorway?

I'm not too sure but I'm going to test it near some speed cameras tonight, if it is the car has probably been owned by some right lunatic in the past :!:

if you only bought it recently, perhaps ask the previous owner?

I bought it from a dealer, but I thought I'd ask on here first since I might need to go back to him with a few other bits including a resting point issue with the wipers which stopped as soon as I tried to video it lol

do a search on here for the wipers. it's a common issue easily fixed, basically cleaning out the grease in the motor.

Google Snooper SLD920X - I believe it is a laser speed gun detector/ jammer... use with caution. :!:

Popular a few years ago, but easily spotted by enforcement teams today and can result in perversion of justice conviction.

Drive safe!

Looks like the sort of thing I'd want to remove - you know when your insurance asked you if you had any modifications and you said no?

.... and they think "ooah a speed gun detector; so does he drive fast; does he go out to avoid detection; did he lie to us?" If you don't need to have it get it removed before it gets you into trouble.

Radar sensor/blocker, hide it behind the grill and hide the button as well, illegal to be fitted on the car

I have a cup holder where your mysterious switch is and the plastic cap (the bit your switch is on) slides left or right to remove. Once that’s off and the bonnets up you should be able to trace the cables a little easier and start to make sense of it. If they ran across the dashboard from the fuse board then they almost certainly went via the plastic panel under the a/c controls, that panel comes out easily with a gentle pry.

All fairly obvious of course but thats what I’d be looking at to find out it’s route.

The switch and the sensor are easy to remove. It's the wiring, and discovering where the 'bleeper' is that could be more complicated.

If you dont want it then disconnect from battery, remove the sensor and switch and leave the wiring if its a complete PITA.
