@ Shipkiller:
I have always wanted the Z4M car since I first sat in one in very early 2006 at an Auto Show. I sat in it and thought, I will have one of these some day. That was before I knew what it sounded like too.
It's a lot quicker than the Z3s for sure...the 3.0i Z3s with the old 5 speed steptronic are barely quicker than my diesel 1 series hatchback, despite a 50hp power advantage...In a roll on from 60-100 there was nothing in it, then the Z3 began to pull away slightly (due to aero and the power advantage I would surmise). Basically it was down to the gearing, the 1 series (180hp/280lbft) is very quick in fourth gear and the diesel turbo gives a huge wave of torque across the whole range.
The Z4 3.0i SMG was great, I wanted another but they didn't sell very well in the UK so good ones do not come on sale that often. I should have kept the silver car I had but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I drove an MR just before buying the 3.0i SMG and at the time decided I couldn't justify the extra cost. The M was quite new at that time and the SMG was half the price basically. The used values (in the UK anyway) are now much closer between the current 3.0si and the M car.
I guess the best things are the noise, the outrageous performance. The ride is a little hard but it is a summer car / weekend car for me so I can live with it. ///M can learn a lot from the Alpina Roadster regarding that.
Prefer the styling of the coupe to be honest but I knew as soon as the sun comes out I would want to put the roof down and regret not getting the roadster.
I have only driven the car a couple of times so far, it has sat in my garage since Saturday, but it will be out tomorrow.

I think you are right. CF leather or piano black wouldnt go well with the seats. To be honest I think whoever specced the car probably chose Alu as it does go well, even if it is the same as a lot of non-M cars.
I don't like the Maritime (striped wood) really but I was thinking the medium dark wood, similar colour but without the stripes. The more I think about it though the more I think the Alu is probably the best option for my colour combo...wood might just be a bit too much brown/light brown and the Alu breaks everything up nicely.
