My zed leaks !!!

There was a mega downpour a few days ago, and my zed was outside at the time.

I have been assured that the zed should be fine out in the rain.

Well, it wasn't.

I noticed an odd musty wet carpet smell the day after, and figured that somewhere must have leaked.

My OH didn't really believe me, even though I got him to take a big whiff of the boot.

So I negotiated a garage space for it tonight, with the idea of leaving the top down and boot open.

As I was taking the stuff out of the boot, (mainly a tarp to stop the carpet getting wrecked) I pulled out the boot floor section and there was about half an inch of water sitting next to the battery compartment :?

So I have a few questions...
Is this normal?
Is there a known problem with leakage in the 2006 z4 si ?
Is this something covered by warranty?

I'm just very annoyed that I didn't open it all up earlier......

Are you kidding me? No, it is not normal.

Known problem? I wouldn't know. Mine is always kept in a heated garage :)

It is definitely covered by the 4 year factory warranty.

No its definitely not normal so i would be going to see the Stealers with that problem my Z lives outside and its been raining here for the last week bone dry inside

It's not normal but several previous posts have had exactly the same problem. Not sure what they ended up doing, but one place to look was for blocked hood vents. Still if it's in warranty a trip to the dealers is all that's needed.

Wasn't there mention of the rear lights needing their screws tightening or something like that? sometimes a slight gap allowed water in to sit in the battery compartment.

Search for water and battery, I think you'll find a couple of threads on it.

I had a similar leak in my first Zed and it took a trip to the stealer to get corrected. I've not had any leak problems in my 2006 and it's a year round daily driver.... :driving:

I ended up selling my TT roadster because it never stopped leaking and is the only thing I'm worried about should I buy a Z. My leak was initially solved by cleaning the drainage pipes, but the leak came back even though the pipes were completely replaced, definately getting a hardtop for the winter!

I did notice a vertical crack in the middle of the centre horizontal skinny taillight....

I have no idea how it cracked, but maybe thats the leak source? It seems unlikely that it would allow that much water in.....

I have also noticed a pop sound from the drivers side speaker when turning the car on, but that was a good few weeks before the downpour...

I'm starting to feel quite bad now.

Wonder if the stealership will blame the crack and make me pay instead of warranty?

ok did more forum research and if 3rd brake light = the centre horizontal skinny taillight on the top of the boot, then I'm all covered under warranty.

Seems odd that the problem wasn't fixed by the 2006 builds.

not normal. although my car sleeps in the garage, it is sometimes parked in the rain for long periods of time. Never a problem. check the stealer
