My Z4MR in for full detail!

AH! I thought that was your one I saw on there. Top job. I agree with yours and sammyz comments. It's about getting it back to a good standard and maintaining it from there.
Completely agree, once you've got a good starting point it's easy to maintain it yourself. My own Z4's paint was decent when I bought it at 4 years old, although silver lends itself to hiding the worst of the swirls, etc. I hand-polished mine with AG SRP (not got my own machine) then sealed and waxed it. All I've done since is a claying/waxing it after each winter, and again a lower-half claying/all-over waxing again before winter kicks in, with the occasional topping up of the wax. Certainly makes it easier to clean/maintain if you keep a good layer of wax on there.

Never read the detailing world website ... it is unhealthy.

I must have spent about 5k on products over the years once I started reading there, not happy :D I even have a paint detector gauge now, how sad is that ...

Too right pvr. Thankfully my neighbour is more obsessed about dw than me. We both acknowledge our behaviour is rather sad but hell, its kind of satisfying too. I now try and use the knowledge to get the car really clean and protected long term rather than actually bother trying to keep it shiny...

You think investing in an osmosis system to generate destilled water for, uh, the ironing is a good move? :D

Best advice I've ever heard - DW is stupidly addictive and an expensive place to frequent...

:D PVR, lol. I've a few pounds worth of polishes, pads and glazes cluttering the garage after spending time on D.W. The cars that astound me are the £200 Fiestas that someone lovingly details and keeps pristine. :) Some remarkable/dedicated/sad individuals on there can make you feel almost normal.

I just gave mine a quick clean and the difference now with the paint is like night and day. Worth every penny. Unfortunately I had a malfunction and something went wrong with most of the pictures (I thought I had lost them originally :() but the better ones are below. Still waiting for the guy that did the work to finish his write-up. At this rate it is going to be a 6-parter

Looking forward to this sammyz.
Not seen any of Matts work for some time now and he is excellent at what he does.

Never a truer word said, you get what you pay for.
Sadly, most customers arent this way minded tbh ( midlands wise anyway )and will turn the tables making it out to be overpriced car cleaning

This one? http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=192786

OMG thats amazing... I am always quite impressed after i have spent the day cleaning my car - but this is perfection

Id imagine the best car to detail (in terms of best visible improvement) would be something like carbon/ ruby black... would really get the tone out.

playalistic, your car looks 8) . Can't wait to see mine, unfortunately it looks like being Saturday now due to work etc etc before I can pick it up. Just in time to drive it home through a blizzard

Yeah well I haven't got any pics yet  Matt at Off Your Marks took loads and will be sending them to me next week when he's back at work. I'll get some pics taken myself when I finally pluck up courage to wash it :)

Matt's work is second to none! Seen alot of his posts in the studio on DW! Look forward to the pics. Although, i question the validity of doing it in Dec!!! I would of waited till April?! (Especially as it isn't your every day car?!)

Had the money saved and decided it was my Christmas present. Time of year makes little difference as it'll be mostly in the garage until the weather improves.

Good choice of detailer. i have read alot of good things about Matt Wakefield @ off your marks. all the top marques reccomend him,as does the BMW Car club(gb),and he even does a monthly column for them in the club mag. i just wish he was closer to me :(
Looking forward to seeing the pics

Yes, I will have to get the car out and photograph it. Matt's camera suffered from frost bite so he lost the photos he'd taken.
