My Z4MR at Knockhill

I was at Knockhill yesterday for my second trackday in the M. Some of you may remember I started a thread last time about how awful it was and how skitterish the car was. Well since the last trackday I have replaced the rear tyres with Michelin Supersports and put new disks on all round and EBC Bluestuff NDX pads all round. It absolutely transformed the car. It was wet all day yesterday and the car was awesome. I couldn't provoke the rear out of shape with TC on. It would just understeer, most likely because my rear tyres now have more grip than the fronts.

Anyway, I will post some vids once they have uploaded to youtube. Here is the first. My friend (Who also Races competitively in a CSL powered E36) took my out in my car to show me how to drive it properly! :driving:

(We left a BMW 1M for dust, after it almost rear ended us at ~2.08mins 8) )

I will post more pics and vids later this afternoon.

That's a good watch, good moment when the mood in the car changes when the 1m nearly rear ends you followed by your mate going quiet and suddenly driving like a demon for a lap to get away. The Clio did well through the corners

Very nice, especially the sound track and your mates throttle control.

Looks like u had lots of fun

Like that...

Great bit of footage..

I noticed there wasnt a lot passing you until the time to move over came ;)

awesome stuff!!! right out the box these are good but with a few choice mods they are track weapons!!

Not a bad recommendation at all Tony

Need to get some PSS up front also as the rears gripped far better than the front ContiSports causing cronic understeer.

Swap the front & backs for some oversteer on demand - did it in the M5 at Donington (235 front and 265 rears - although they were non road legal race tyres) and I was sidways through the whole of Craners :o

Merely running PS3's on my 3.0 and in the wet are mightily impressive grip wise, so if the budget allows suggest you get th front PSS ASAP

pss are awesome no doubt, but i do find they go greasy and overheat very very quickly.... but for an overall tyre they are really good.... on the track however i dont see a massive improvement over the ps2 they replaced..... for a road tyre however they are impressive and once they do become greasy really fun to just slip around.... they seem to last forever too.. looking forward to finishing mine off next week so i can move into something more extreme.....

Really enjoyed that vid thanks  I just love sideways & he was controlling it very well, I used to find with my Z4MR that when you got it to slide out it would snap back on me quite aggressively whereas my M3 is alot more progressive & just comes back smoothly, it looks like you enjoyed it. :driving:

The car really done an excellent job yesterday. When my Friend Clark was driving it, it was the quickest thing on track over the length of a lap (The lineup was mainly Evo's, various Lotus and a few BMWs). When I was driving it, it was not nearly as quick but there was still very little passing me. I had a good few laps chasing a race prepared E46 M3. Nothing in it on the straights, and I was quicker through the back section of the track but he was quicker round the hairpin than me which let him open up a bit of a gap on the main straight, so I was playing catchup on every lap. The car was understeering really badly as the hairpin, so towards the end of the session I started turning the TC off to stop the car bogging down on the exit which helped a lot. I wasn't brave enough to keep it turned off for the duration of a lap though. I will post another video of me driving this time shortly. You will see the massive difference between a very competent driver (My friend, last video) and a mere amateur (Me)!

Lovely piccies Easty  I notice one photo has the 1M in it that nearly rearranged your rear bumper! It was epic driving skills from Clark considering the conditions. :driving:

Haha yes. That picture was taken literally just before he had to take evasive action.

Clark's driving skills really are something else. He took me out in his race car and it was astonishing. The way he could control the car, I could only dream of doing. I told him he should mount a camera at his feet as the footwork is almost as interesting as what's happening out the front. He won both races in his Class today despite qualifying last due to not putting any petrol in his car

Great vid, your mates pretty handy. Lovely to see a Z4 hunting down Evos in conditions like that. Loved the last lap when he was playing too.
