My Z4MC track videos and pics

Someone told me something yeasterday, but I could not beleive it. After some searches on the web, it seems that was true : the GT2 driver was Rob Huff, leader of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). :o :D

His Facebook page

In the video comments he said he owned a Z4M, and that is a brillant car  :).

I beleive it was his first time on the Ring and he was waiting his friend in the GTR ...?

Met up with Huffy in the car park, and also Frank Wrathall (IIRC) - did you not notice the H11FFY reg plate with the black screw underneath the 11 :P

Some news...

Summer 2011
My best lap on the Ring (8:08 BTG) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XCr9Ohz8PI
A great battle with a Ford Fiesta RS Turbo at Dijon-Prenois (great track !) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WH2MSENwRJg
My best laps at Dijon-Prenois : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m07LcPpQJWo

I crashed the Z on september at Le Laquais (a track near Lyon in France), I had to replace lots of parts (bumper, right headlight, wishbone...) and a full re-paint with the same color.
I also changed the suspension. Now there are Bilstein B6 shocks, Eibach Pro-kit springs, Vorshlag shock mounts Front & rear (camber/caster set to max on the front), Turner Motorsport sway bars (M3 E46) with ajustable links, and Powerflex rear trailing arms bushings + Turner limiters. I also have new wheels (19" gold BBS LM replica).
Before the crash, I also removed all plastics and mats from the trunk (about -20kg), I replaced the stock seats with Recaro Apex and VAC mounts (-25kg), and fitted AP-Racing brakes on 4 corners.

This year, I went back to the Ring on April, but I only started to get used of the new setup on the 2 last laps.
I still had the stock rear sway bar, I wanted to test with only the front TMS one. But the feeling was not so good.
This is the last and best lap of the week-end (8:20 BTG with a passsenger, trafic and yellow flag ) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_FxF8i_JLg

So last week I fitted the TMS rear sway bar, and I went back to Dijon-Prenois. The feeling was excellent, I beat my best lap on the morning (1:37:00), I was sure to improve it again in the afternoon, but the rain prevented me to do so. Videos will come next week ;).

Next mods : lightweight battery (Odyssey Extrem 25 : -13kg), seat belts, rear stainless brake lines, Pagid RS5 pads.

Awesome mod list. Only thing missing is an aftermarket exhaust to get rid of those ugly stock back boxes.

Can't say i care much for the new wheels either but if you like them it's all good. :)

Awesome videos, you looked like you were flying around the Nurburgring - some impressive driving! :driving:

Thanks !

Yes I know but the problem is that on some track, they are very strict with the noise. At Le Laquais, my girlfriend did not pass the noise test with her MINI Works GP which has full stock (Works) exhaust and intake !

I still have the CSLs replica in the garage ;).

Impressive! Thank you for sharing the videos. Watching it was a feast.

It seems there are many extremely capable track drivers on this forum, which definitely says something...

Thanks ;).

One of my 2 best laps of the week-end (there is no video for the 2nd one :( ). I still make some mistakes (misshifts à Adenauer Forst and Schwalbenschwanz), there is some traffic, I have a passenger and I don't have semi-slick tyres (Michelin Pilot Super Sport), so with better conditions and some "training", the time would be easily beaten :

That's a great run. Much faster than i would ever manage there.

What are your opinions on your suspension mods? Been thinking about just camber plates myself...

Suspension is good but not perfect ;).

Front : grip is impressive compared to the stock setup, but I still have to try different tyre pressures, depending on their temperature it is more or less efficient. Maybe I could try to play with the toe too.
More front negative camber is a great plus, even with the stock "ajustement" and suspension.

Rear : Maybe it was because of the tyres temperature (too hot), but for my 2 last laps I was alone in the car, and the rear axle was not so good as my previous laps (with a passenger). So maybe I will change the rear springs (for lower ones) and modify rear shocks because I think they not adapted anymore as I removed about 40kg from the rear, and I still have to fit my Odyssey battery which is 13kg lighter that the stock one.

Is it worth going your way with the seperate shocks/springs or just go with a coilover kit? How about ride quality how did it affect that for on the road driving?

Thanks !

Ride quality on the road is good, sometimes even better than stock. It's also safer, and the feeling is better.
Coil over are a way more expensive than my setup, and I don't need to ajust ride height so often. I prefer spending my money in something else ;).
I will call a local suspension specialist ( http://www.da-competition.com/da-competition.asp?lg=en ), I will give him all the details so that he will be able to find the best springs and shocks modifications for my setup, and it will be cheaper than coil over.
