I'd been on the lookout for a M for a while and picked up this lovely example a couple of weeks ago courtesy of a top chap in Southampton.
It's a fabulous colour combination and has all the spec I wanted bar extended leather, which isn't a deal breaker. The simple new toys like cruise, aux-in and one-touch indicators are being very well received so far! There's also an intravee installed but I haven't played around with it that much (yet). Mechanically, just coming up to 54k and Inspection 2 and all round new discs/pads have all been recently done so there shouldn't be much to do for a while.
Comparing to the 3.0si, I really can't understand how some say there is much difference between the two. The S54 is quicker everywhere and just goes bonkers over 5k rpm. The noise at 2.5k is brilliant and overall the engine just has so much character. I also much prefer the steering and brakes, however, the gearshift is taking some getting used to (will give me a bigger left arm - oh well, that way it'll match the right arm
)
I was very sad to see my 3.0si go and will always remember the buttery smooth N52, but I'm enjoying being a member of the exclusive ///M club
