mmm-five, C is for club not coupe (or was it a joke i didn't get?).
No, it wasn't a joke.

CSL is an acronym for the German 'Coupe Sport Leicht' or 'Coupe Sports Lightweight' in English, and was originally used on the e9.

CS is Club Sport.

If the OP doesn't mind calling his car a 'convertible' then he could get away with 'Convertible Sport Lightweight' :P

So I saw too ... no joke indeed :) When I saw CSL I said to myself he is going to change his babe into a Benz

I know its allot quicker as on a few occasions 60-110, 60-110 I’ve easily pulled away from M3 e46's and they were trying. The Shrick cams really give you that extra push at high revs 4500 upwards. ..

Ahh didn't realise you had cams too - how does the car drive, i've heard that you loose low down grunt, less torque but more top end power. Great for track use but not sure how it would fair on the road?

Sorry do you mind also letting us know what exactly a stage 3 involves as this is a real alternative to S/charging. I'm planning to do something over the winter.

Can I suggest we arrange for a track day at Bedford next year as it has a long straight or possibly an airfield day for some top end speed traps!!!

The cams do make a difference. The car feels it can rev fare beyond my 8100rev limit. Have to say both the dyno and the feel of driving it the maximum torque come in alot lower then standard. The Dyno says at around 2500revs where before the mods it was aroound 6000 revs. Have to say it does feel alot more torque lower doen the revs, it pulls alot more in any gear.

Also an update from CA-automotive today that they have managed to get the Supersprint RHD Stepped Headers onto my car and are current in the process of remapping. I beleave they had to abit of work for them to fit but they have managed it :D. I'll posted some information about BHP increases when I find out.

When at Bruntingthorpe the tester did record a 173mph on the recording machine. Don't know what the speedo was reading for that. Forgot to ask.

Regards.

That' odd as the OEM CSL manifold is exactly the same as the Z4M so would have thought this would be a straight swap :? Had my OEM one replaced under warranty due to a damaged O2 sensor and the part no had CSL marked in white. Maybe S/Sprint go with a slightly different piping angle to stock - would be good to get details on what CA had to do to make it fit.

Thanks for insight into cams and drivability - sounds like i makes things better with more torque at 2.5k rpm

BTW car should be rapid with all those mods - keep us posted.

Hey, Z4M_CSL, are you still around? What did happen with those stepped headers and the remap in the end?

Hi all,

Sorry for not reporting sooner. Well have had the car back from CA-AUTOMOTIVE with the 3rd stage modes completed. They managed to get the Super Sprint Stepped Headers on which has increased the sound a little. It’s hard to explain but the engine feels less stressed or held back, it revs more freely. With the re-map they managed to get 391BHP after a few adoptions (I have included the first DYNO run of 389BHP).

But the best thing is not the power (which is better) but it's the handling, the Ground Control anti roll bars are amazing. Where before the car use to roll in fast tight corners now is so flat. I have the Nitron Coil Overs in the softest setting at the moment (to run them in). This is another strange one to explain: they car feels so much tighter but at the same time more comfortable. I use to have HR lowering springs on the car but these Nitron Coil Overs (Adjustable) and Ground Control Anti Roll bars has transformed the car. I was hoping to go to Bruntingthorpe race track to test the car out but the weather hasn’t permitted it. Hoping to go in the New Year to set-up the Nitrons.

The new carbon bits looks FAB! the ac-schnitzer rear diffuser and the CA-AUTOMOTIVE custom made carbon splitters add that little bit extra to the car.

Oh yes forgot to say I was on a certain dual carriage with a Bentley Conti GTC 60plate, he was right up my back-side, the car in front me moved over at 50 in 3rd floored it and I could see me pull away from him. Came up to some lights and did the same thing again 40-110 and still pulled away from him. VERY BAD OF ME :D Hopefully when at Bruntingthorpe will be able to post some 0-60-100 times.

Here are some pics of the car now:

Will find the 391BHP dyno run and post that later.

Here's a link that list all the mods to the car (Its got to the stage now that I can't remember LOL) :-)

Also many thanks for reading my article, Merry Christmas & Happy new year to everyone.

Z4M_CSL, what a car! Great project, and not being a regular, thanks for the write up too, it may be out of my league (don't even have an M), but love this sort of thing

Power's impressive, but as you say, handling is where it's at! Must help get the power down too. Finally, great finish on the paint, looks amazing. I do like black wheels on the Z, looks so much better with the roof up on non-black cars.

Be great to see the car, keep an eye on the meets section

Sounds great! Thanks for the update mate.

Ideally it's where i would like my M to end up as. Please post videos too if you have them!

I love the mechanical additions to your car, but the cosmetic tweaks ruin it. The random bits of carbon look completely out of place.

390bhp!! - Cracker!

We should arrange an epic Naturally Aspirated vs Forced Induction deathmatch between this and Beedubs car! :driving:

I think Forced induction would win...But would be good to see!

In pure numbers perhaps, but overall? The feel of the engine? Noise? Handling? We would need an independent driver though to ensure fairness. Seeing as The New Stig is still only an infant and would barely reach the steering wheel with its paws on the pedals i nominate ME and my mediocre driving skills for this arduous task. I would even be willing to fly in the UK for this, how's early March for you all?

honestly i wish you could guys hear my motor..... the v3si is a silent trim charger so it sounds how it did before without being charged, but at very low revs 1-3000 rpm you can just hear it spooling, at very high revs all i hear is blow off noise, its a very very mecanical noise, but perfectly in tune with the s54, its just works, its fab, most people would not detect the s.c noise at all! but ontop of the s54 noise which is completely present still, its sounds like a monster, it really is very impressive.

390bhp normally aspirated is fab, i bet that feels so nice to drive, what are your cam specs?

what i love about the s/c power delivery is the torque all round and driveability is astonishing... the car drives better than it ever did stock, the tuning is bang on, no hesitation, no flat spots, just power from idle to redline, also fyi Ess weighted the stock parts and matched the s/c kit so it didnt add extra weight in the nose of the car...... email em for a more detailed answer ;-)

on 100 octane the car made 460 bhp... on weaker fuel it drops considerably as the car pulls timing.

if i could liken how the z4m Ess feels in the car?? it feels like the engine has been swapped in the night for the V8.... power, torque, and complete drivability.

.

So what happen when you use 98 octane petrol, do you have to use a an octane booster all the time?

no i point blank refuse to use octane boosters, i should have been more specific, the car performs the same on 97-100 octane, on race fuel i can see more power but its difficult to get, vpower and she makes full power, the best bit is now, if i want more power its very easy once the kit has be purchased, saying that.... the Vt2 is now available!! one car in the us made 525bhp on 100 octane.

OP i love your car btw........ nitron shocks...... talk to me about them... full details please!! are you rubbing on ful compression with this kit? can you run the car at stock ride height if you wish?
i think if we met up at brunters and did some runs and just take some pics together it would make a proper awesome shoot!! lets do it!!

p.s love your rear bumper, mods!! infact i pretty much love the all the mods to your car!!

I agree that in this instance the mechanical work and results are awesome, but some of those CF pieces just look exactly as you say and random, out of place. Especially on the front splitter, side skirts and CSL badging.

Oh but how I woudl like that engine and suspension
