My z4.

Hi everyone, been lurking around since May when I stumble upon the forum researching how to retrofit cruise control for my trip to The Nurburgring. (Nice to have CC when cruising the autobahn )
Anyway, reading all the excellent threads of mods other people have done, it inspired me to do some work on my car as well :-)
So without further ado, here is my show and tell.

A picture of the z4 the day I bought it. (September 2011)

It's a 2003, 2,5l auto with 47,000 miles on the clock.

Did 2 mods right after I bought it, black kidney grills and iPod/iPhone adapter (x-car link).
Did not do anything more before finding this forum. So here are the mods I've done after.

1. Retrofit Cruise Control stalk. (No pictures)

2. Upgraded front disks to 300mm (from 328i e46)

Refurbishing of the calliper carriers from the e46.

New disks all around, painted and ready for assembly.

New disks fitted, with new EBC yellow stuff pads.

3. Machine Monkey exhaust tip.

4. "Stubby" arial.

5. M-Sport wheel with MFSW.

6. Blacked out rear lights. (Not sure I will keep it)

And now for the big one :D
7. ESS Tuning SC Stage 1.

Big box :)

Shiny

Old manifold removed.

Getting there :)

Done :D just waiting for the ECU to arrive back from ESS.

Well, thats it for now, hope it was worth the read :)

Here is a video of my quickest lap around The Ring, for those that are interested :)

Holy fcuk - that was all looking so standard (but great  ) and then you tossed in the supercharger

Welcome to the forum, got my Zed in September 2011 as well 8)

Oow so tempting with the suoercharger!!! That's going to be brilliant! Very jealous :D great work! Are you doing the install of the SC?

Tell you what, if you're spending that amount of money why not stick on an aftermarket intake too ? Aural sex :driving:

Wow great mods... Bit of a sleeper with that sc too!

Thanks for all the kind words :-)
There are still more mods to be done, but completing the SC is the last mod this season.

LukeMace. Yes, I'm doing the SC install myself, with good help from a friend. Still waiting for the ECU to come back from reprogramming. Will try and get it on a dyno when it's all done :-)

Just so I understand the SC a little better, the engine inlets are all taking from one rectangle outlet from the SC? Is there a route to each inlet or are they drawing from one common source? If that's makes sense!?

Don't really know much about how the SC works, but the way I understand it there is a route to each inlet, drawing from a common source.

What kind of difference does the charger make to the acceleration times?

0-60
30-50
50-70
0-100

would be interesting to know....

Welcome to the forum and great mods (I'd personally lose the blacked out rear lights but thats me). What I like about your post is how it drew me in with various mods-and-sods then smacked me round the face; WTF?!?

Sticker, stubby, exhaust tips....ESS supercharger lump :!:

Very, very nice indeed.

Very nice.

What's the output? 350bhp / 0-60 4.5 Seconds??

At £6,500 I think id rather chop mine in for an M.

Very nice I have been thinking of upper charging mine. But in a monkey maddens DIY way. What boost pressure is the kit running at? I take it there is no internal mods forged con rods low compression pistons?

Also what air filter are you using? I take it its filter MAF charger then the new manifold. Have you had to upgrade injectors or fuel pump? Or is it just a case of getting a remap? Sorry about all the questions are you running an intercooler?

Can't wait to hear back what you have to say :)

Think I need to start working on making an inlet manifold :)

Still waiting for the ECU to get back to me, so have not been able to drive it yet. But going from info on the ESS Tuning site, I should se a 0 - 60 time of 6-7 sec (I have an auto box so am not expecting miracles with regards to the 0-60 time)

Love the charger! Interested to see what gains this gives you!

Should give me around 100 hp extra (285-290, from ESS Tuning site)

An M roadster would defiantly be a option if it were not for living in Norway :-(
Right now, the only E85 M roadster for sale in Norway's largest auto trader site is a 2006 model with 47,000km on the clock and a price around 60,000£ :-( )

The charger runs at 7 psi pressure. No internal mods, but the kit comes with larger Bosch fuel injectors. Still have the oem air filter installed, but will upgrade it to a K&N filter down the line :-)
Am also planing on replacing the fuel pump with a larger capacitive one.
Not running an inter cooler, but I can upgrade to stage 2 (inter cooler) but it will only give me about 10-15 hp extra. The auto box is the limiting factor :-(

So, thought I should update this thread.

The SC has been running flawless for over 8 months now, but in a few days it will face its true test, namely laping The Nordschlife :-)

Here is a short video of the engines first start after SC install

Have also painted the rims matt black

So fingers crossed that the car holds up :-)
