i found out my 2003 z4 2.5i needs good amount of work.
my oxygen sensor is bad and needs to be replaced - is it important to replace it anyway ?
my water pump needs replacement, the car sound isnt as solid as it is.
theres a small oil leak i spotted, its not dropping on the floor, its inside the hood.

and it needs some exterior work
the front bumper needs to be replaced.
my third brake light on the trunk needs to be replaced
brake dust builds up fast on my rims, there must be a way to stop it.

is there anything i can do myself to fix any of these issues ? i feel a bit depressed about my z4 sometimes...

Sorry to hear m8. Hopefully nothing too expensive! I am sure you will bring it back to its former glory! Most of the things you mentioned I guess they can be fixed by a good mechanic on a service.

Don't know about the mechanical stuff, but I am sure you can change the third break light yourself!

Thirds brake light is an easy DIY. £50 and you're sorted.

The O2 sensor and water pump should really be replaced as soon as possible.

Brake dust - try Greenstuff or Redstuff pads. Both will reduce dust. Also, wheel protection with Poorboy's wheel sealant will help wash the dust off more easily

More on O2(lambda) sensors: There are 4 of them. The forward pre-cat two are critical to proper engine operation, and are easy to replace. The rearward post-cat two are much less important, and access is difficult, but still would cause an emissions test failure if your state requires one.

my state does not require an emission test thankfully.
is the O2 sensor highly critical to replace ? its just a sensor after all what will it affect if its not working...
and ill get the waterpump checked soon.
adamski, i dont know what redstuff pads are lol. is it something i can order online or only from a BMW dealer ? im located in south USA, alabama.

The front 2 sensors are part of a basic control loop that determines how much fuel is injected into each cylinder on each cycle. If not working properly, the engine will run too rich or too lean, dramatically affecting emissions and performance. The rear 2 are basically just to ensure the cats are working correctly.

Redstuff are performance street brake pads by EBC. UK company, but available in the US and online. Would be surprised if any BMW dealer offered them.

Helalo, I'm in South MS. I bought my pads at Autozone or O'Reilly's. Don't buy OEM BMW pads; they are the reason for all that dust. The aftermarket pads work well and have 2/3 less dust, in my experience. Also, don't waste your money on BMW's " Wheel Cleaner Gel " in a spray bottle. I did, and it's useless. I was hoping to spray it on the wheels, which would break down all the dust build up and enable me to wash it away with a hose. That didn't happen. You will still have to scrub your wheels to remove the dust with the gel, so just use car soap and a soft microfiber brush with handle ($5 or less at Walmart, automotive section) then hose them off.

If you mean the lens, you can change that (or the bulb) yourself. Just don't over-tighten the screws holding the lens on, or you'll end up with more cracks.
