My Z4 (at last!)

i wont bother about putting the Z4 badge back on, just making cleaning harder, after machine buffing mine at the weekend for the first time this proved it.

How are you finding the clutch?

Might want to consider the CDV (clutch delay valve) removal if you have a few to many kanagroo's. I'm looking to get mine done in the next couple of weeks been told it makes a big difference.

Good point about the cleaning mate. Nice one, I hadn't considered that. I'm just toying with the idea at the moment, it more than likely won't happen.
As for the clutch, i had severe problems for the first 2 days, and was relieved to read it wasn't just me, but since then it doesn't happen at all. I've learnt to feel it out and find a way of 'caressing' it into those first couple of gears. I'm as smooth as you like with it now, just nice and slow with that clutch pedal at first and it's driving like silk now  Only thing is my gearstick is really 'notchy' through the first two gears, i'm wondering if it's because of it's low mileage (10k) and if it's still bedding-in, so to speak. The lower the gear, the stiffer the change, it's progressive. 3rd to 4th to 5th is awesome, and i've barely even touched 6th yet but that feels even better.

I don't like the Z4 badge either, looks cleaner without it

Great car, only thing I would suggest you change the wheels for something a bit meatier? They look a bit lost in the arches.

I had a few agents refuse to quote when I was under 30 with 10 years ncd etc, so see where your are coming from.

Won't cover a Z4 under 30 with 10 years NCD?!? I just do not get insurance some times. Did you shop around much? Last year I was 24 with 6 years NCD and my 2004 M3 was £1300FC with Bell. Mind you some would not cover that car for under 25s.

Aye, i reckon it's gonna stay nekkid. I think it looks even more slick and clean when badgeless.

Thankyou :)
I know mate, but the mileage on my car, for it's age, was just too good to pass up even though it came with my least favourite style wheels - I think I'm gonna have to upgrade the alloys in the new year. I don't walk out to the car in the mornings and think "euughhh!", far from it, but I'm keen to get a set of more brutal wheels on it. What would you recommend? I see loads of BMW wheels on ebay but feel a bit wary of buying from there. I don't mind admitting that I'm a complete and utter noobie, so any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. :sos:
Oh yeah, where can I get a chrome tip for my exhaust? Is it possible to fit double pipes on my 2.0? Just musing about that last question though :scratchhead:
Cheers!

Mike

I'm 34 now, and the car at the time was as 2002 320d Sallon, nothing to special, I think I was over 30, but my wife i 5 year younger.

I always look around an have never had any real problems with insurance, and have always paid between £400-£600 for as long as I can remember.

My last car was a 2005 BMW 320cd M Sport and changing to the Z4 increased my insurance by £60 which I thought was good, for a ragtop with another 70hp

Looks like a minter agreed, and I know where you are coming from; I wanted cruise control as I use it all the time, but this car turned up with only 1160 miles on the clock so I had to buy it. I miss cruise but it was the right idea!

Wheels are easily solved and not horrendously expensive either :) I am new to the Z4s myself (had mine 2 weeks!), but I do love the look of Srhutch's wheels on the Z. Or CSL wheels which never fail. Wheels always make the car...transforms the stance and proportions. You could probably get a bargain on Ebay for 3.0Si wheels or such that someone has upgraded from?

Just dont go for the standard M Sport wheels from 06 onwards (twin spoke jobbies)

they are a bugger to clean, and dont suit the car, they are much better on the e46 series sports models which is when I had them.

I'm looking for some Alpina or M6 reps, I think 5 spokes is enough for this car.

What a small world - I do believe you were parked across the road from my place in Holmes Chapel this morning! I can't recall spotting your car before so I guess you were just visiting...or just moved in? ... or maybe it wasn't you at all :P

If it wasn't your car it was very similar - I wondered which version it was as it's de-badged...but the single exhaust gives it away! It wasn't looking as clean as it is in these pictures :(

I sold my Elise yesterday and so have been browsing the internet for a Z4...somehow I ended up here looking at pictures...

Might see you around

Aha! I thought, when i first read your posts, that i live opposite someone with a Lotus thats often garaged and an Alfa GTV. But I thought i'd look a proper fool if i came over and said "OI, have you posted on the z4-forum or what?!" only for it to be someone completely different  .
If you happen to have a neighbour with a red Nissan 300ZX I've lived opposite you for over a year now. You may recall I had a Gray Puma until the end of September. The Z4 has been kinda hidden parked up behind the Freelander so I can understand you missing it, but it's been there for weeks, and I was polishing it outside the house a fortnight ago for ages. And about the filth on it at the moment... the car wash at Holmes Chapel garage has been kaput all week, I will be on the case tomorrow! If you want to check out the car, just let me know.
I quite liked your Elise, I was tempted to go and give 'em a go before i bought the Z4, but i like to be a bit more comfortable than I think the Lotus offered, It seemed a little sparse on the inside.

I take you're in the middle of the block of 3 houses? Anyway - I've just posted in the general section asking for advice on a Z4 I'm looking at tomorrow...I might just have quick look at yours first for comparison if you're around?

What's your name by the way...or should I knock at the door and ask for Ignitor!!!? :P

ha ha, the name's Paul. I really struggled to think of a name when i joined up and i had my beloved guitar of the same name on my knee at the time. I'm regretting it now though, it sounds like something from Gladiators :(
Yeah, it's number 86, and I'll be up & about in the morning. You're welcome to have a look around mine, no worries, it's in awesome condition i'm glad to say. Except for the previously mentioned exterior dirt :shifty:
I've just had a quick look at AT and think I saw the car you're going to see, it's got the 108 wheels i really want for mine! I'll get those sorted out in the New Year.

Paul,

I could do with changing my name too now!

So you reckon the one I'm looking at looks OK? I'm a bit suspicious that there are only photos of one side...but it's a lady owner...'nuff said :D I think I should be able to knock them down on the asking price quite a bit too so could be a bargain.

My folks usually drop in Sunday morning but are usually gone by 11 o'clock - I'll call round then (gives you a chance to attack that mud!)

I didn't want to say anything but now that you brought it up - as soon as I saw those three shots I thought, "WTF is the point in that?". You've a right to be a bit suss with it, but some people simply don't have a clue of how to display or photograph anything, let alone a car they are trying to sell. I'd just check it over in good light for any damage to the body panels down that off side. I'm sure i've read somewhere on here about a corrosion issue with those split rims too, so that'll be worth keeping an eye on.
Being a newbie at all this car lark myself, I can't offer you much advice at all I'm afraid...:scratchhead: erm, I s'pose it'll soon be a 5 year old car, so at 46k it's done less than average miles so that's a good start... and erm, i really like the colour if that's of any help
There are few small things to watch out for that i can demonstrate on mine in the morning though. After 11 is good for me, will see you around then.
