My Z4 35i, unexpected purchase, minor project

It's certainly very clean inside and out! I'm looking forward watching this thread over the coming months.
Whats the small unit next to your Idrive controller?

Thanks, I must try not to let it turn into too much of a project, but I will enjoy making little improvements and making sure it's properly maintained.

The little unit is a Belkin car audio connect, that allows Bluetooth streaming and calls via the aux port. Oddly given the rest of the spec the car doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity so the little Belkin takes care of that.

Aaaaand I've bought another set for summer tyres!

It's eBay's fault, there were some almost identical wheels in clearance so it shouldn't cost any more than getting the original wheels refurbed bh the time they're sold.

Just need to be patient and wait until next March to put them on! We'll seee how that goes...

On the tyre front I had decided that the Continental Premium was my first choice as an excellent all rounder with exceptional wear rates reported.
Unfortunately I couldn't find them in 255/35, however a quick mail to Continental and they tell me they are in the pipeline.

A good reason to be patient! :)

Tried the 'golf tee' exhaust mod this eve, think it will be staying. There's some nice burble at low speeds and under more gentle acceleration it's nice to hear a bit more! No discernible drone or intrusive noise at motorway speeds either.

Quick, easy and for me a success!

New summer wheels arrived 18 hours after I ordered them! Impressive! :o

Sliiightly different to the winter wheels but almost the same, both made by Cades and the specs are the same bar a 2mm lower offset on the rear of the summer wheels.

I weighed a couple of the wheels as I remember Cades Eros 15" wheels being heavy, whilst not lightweight they're about what I'd hoped at c. 10kg each.
Somewhat bizarrely the 9" rears are actually 100g lighter than the fronts!?? :?

I'm doing much better with not making a project out of this than I expected!! A house move has done a great job of restricting disposeable income!

Had the rear brakes done at the main dealer yesterday (respectable £150), whilst I was there I asked them to price up retrofitting Bluetooth and changing the front kidney grilles and lower grille surrounds to black...

The Bluetooth as expected was prohibitively expensive, the kidney grilles in high gloss black a thoroughly acceptable £60 with free fitting and I'm waiting to hear back on the lower grille surrounds.

Hoping they're sensible money too as it would be nice to replace some silver with black at the front to complement the black wheels.

Here's one albeit with the M Sport bumper but I like the black over the silver currently fitted:

Black kidney grilles and lower grille surrounds have been ordered, going to attempt them myself when I put the winter wheels on next weekend.

For anyone interested I put together a video of my first post-supercharger trackday in my Honda-powered MX5. It's been a two year struggle getting the charger on and all working, so great to finally use it! :D

I paid over £80 for my black kidney grills from bmw, you got a great deal getting them for that price!

Bit of an overdue update here!

As planned, I changed the silver bits for black bits when I put the black winter wheels and tyres on...

In November we moved house and relocated back to the countryside, so all the focus was very much on that.

The car has been faultless, with a sensibly priced service completed last month at an independent garage. The winter tyres have been thoroughly worth the money spent, performing excellently when called upon. They do leave a lot to be desired when pushing on though, it’s a bit of an eye-opening experience driving it hard on those!

It will soon be time for summer tyres so I’m deliberating over those again. I think it’s likely I will go for good quality mid-range tyres rather than spend what could be double on the best. It’s never going to be the best car dynamically and Pilot Sports are never going to change that, having used the likes of Hankook, Kumho and Uniroyal on track, I’m also confident that they’re very capable tyres not to be sniffed at.

In other car news I’ve managed to get out on track in the MX2000 and Clio a few times, they both continue to develop at a rate of knots and provide lots of fun! :D

And I bought something I’ve been looking for for some time, a mk2 CRX, in the specification I always wanted, Torino red pearl and a fairly rare non-sunroof tintop. It’s not be any means a minter but has very little rust and is something I can cherish and improve over time!
