Cheers mate,

The brakes have just done enough miles to be bedded in now, so much better than before

I noticed it when i painted the kidneys, so the colour change is nice a and subtle. dead is to do four torq bolts just need undoing then slide the brace out

May need to do this now! Thanks!!!

I've just got the brake set from a 330 (front and back) and am glad they make a difference! You doing the backs too?

I'm thinking bright green calipers (like Marius' wheels were a while back) so will do these braces the same colour!

Thanks guys

What size are the rears?

bright green calipers will look good, could get addictive painting stuff i might end up painting too much lol

Back Luke? Have you read about the handbrake not working due to the inner bigger rotor on bigger discs?

Surley you just get 330 hand brake shoes, plus 330 pivot, adjuster and springs....

Yes, you could, but that's getting more depth for some, y'know? Not so bolt off, bolt on.

in fairness hand brake shoes are a 10 minuete job while you have the disc off, as long as you can get the springs back on

it would be worht checking that the handbrake shoe locating pins are in the same position as on the 330 though other wise you will need a new backing plate too, and then that becomes not so bolt on bolt off lol

Had a think about that an decided to wait till I get them and offer them up to see what I was to do!! the back plate I will simply 'move' out of the way to make space!! Handbrake wise... Not heard that!

no the hand brake shoes have a locating pin on each, that go into the backing plate and if the holes are in diffrent positions you will need to swap backing plates too

one sec i wil xref on real oem for you

they are definatly diffrent:

z4 3.0 rear hand brake shoe pn x ref, fits: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=34416761291

z4 hand brake shoe: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT52&mospid=47797&btnr=34_1293&hg=34&fg=40
330 hand brake shoe: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BD52&mospid=47620&btnr=34_0768&hg=34&fg=40

all you need is parts 2, 3, 4 and 7

and hope the holes are the same,

i have hand brake shoes of of my zed in the garage atm if you want me to measure the locating pin hole centers? so you can compare with 330 holes

Damn!!
If you are able to measure that would be brilliant mate! Would be a waste after buying the set not to fit it as a set... Even if there is some tinkering involved, Makes it all the more accomplishing once done! Was the front an easy 'on off' change then?

definatly clutching lol

the zed hand brake shoes are the same for the E46 for 2 - 2.8 liter because they all have the same size rear discs, the 330 has alrger discs so will need larger shoes

there is some hope though, the pivot is the same: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=34416750198

the adjuster appears to be diffrent: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=34416851437&showeur=on

the springs dont have individual pn's on the zed so cant tell if they are diffrent

i will measure tomorrow, the hand brake shoes were under £20 at europarts anyway,

yes the fronts were a straight swap, i had Stainless steel braided hoses to go on so that made it easier too, didnt lose to much brake fluid

That makes sense!
Brilliant, if its just the handbrake shoes that need changing at the same time... Happy days! (Hopefully!) I should have them by Wednesday and ready to fit by Friday hopefully so will call on you come any trouble!! appreciate the help!

i wouldnt of thought the adjuster is any diffrent,

but the springs might be too tight on larger shoes, the are bloddy tight on the correct size shoes

yea give me a pm or something if you get stuck mate,

dont forget to get the rear discs off you will need to slacken the adjuster off of the hand brake shoes

Hi

Beautiful job!

Can you please inform how did you get the grey trim off the tail lights - I actually do not have them and I am looking to get some. So far the trim does not seem to sell separately form the tail light - any light you can shed will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Wow! 4 days short of 5 years - some thread revival.
Must be pretty close to being a record.
