My trunk will not open. It is a 2003 BMW Z4 Roadster. Key will not open it, nor the keyless entry. They key will open the front and pasenger door, as does the keyless entry. HELP?! ft. walton beach

Have you :

Checked the fuse
Used the key
Managed to start the car, i.e. the battery isn't flat ?

mr. bear, are you saying you can't open the trunk/boot either by using the remote or the key... :?

The key button doesn't open the trunk, nor will turning the key in the key hole. Keyless entry also doesn't work.

The car works perfectly, but the trunk will not open. There is nothing wrong with the battery,

If the key is dead, try this

You may need to reinitialise all your keys to get that one working again, the flat battery may have caused the security codes to be corrupted.

It is possible to ruin a battery by completely discharging it to 0 output, but seems unlikely in your case.

Thanks.. that was exactly it!

I went for a 3 hours drive.. and the remote function still didnt work :(

Followed this thread:

1. Turn key to position 1 five times very quickly
2. Remove key
3. Hold unlock button then press lock button 3 times, release unlock button.
4. If you have another key do the same button pressing within 30 seconds
5. Turn on ignition to finalize

Which made my old key work... but then i didnt do it for the spare working key and that stopped working!! :headbang:

So i did it again for both keys and now i have 2 fully functioning keys :driving:

Care to tell us more :tumbleweed:
The Car starts, if you engage they key it clicks but the trunk will still not open. Keyless entry also makes the trunk click, but not open. What else do you want to know?

Just trying to eliminate some problems.... helps to know more, and coupe boots are different

I think Wondermike's guide is the best advice, but failing that, the does the solenoid operate when you press the boot release button inside the car? Could be sticking, but with it being a roadster access will be difficult

Those were my thoughts, but wanted to get rid of all the "if" "but" and "maybe" (s) first

Still annoying when these little gremlins pop us, as rare as it may be :x

The fact it clicks with both cabin release and key turn is a good sign. That should mean the lock has released. Maybe the spring that gives initial lift has broken. Have you tried getting your fingers under the edge and giving a good tug while the key is turned to the unlock position? Or maybe the lid is slightly stuck to the weather stripping. Just slight adhesion over the entire perimeter can make it impossible to open unless the adhesion is broken somewhere. Was the rubber recently treated with anything? The underside of the lid?

Is it a robust click (spring loaded lock hook/cam releasing) or a weak little click (broken linkage noise)? If the linkage is broken, I think you're screwed. Probably means drilling a hole in just the right place to release the lock, much like safe crackers do in the cinema, then patching the hole.
