Run Flats and Touring Europe .......
Been reading a bit on here about folk planning summer trips around europe, which is excellent ...... nothing better. Get up
in the morning, check the news for where the good weather is, and stamp on the gas
love it.
But there is one thing European travellers should be aware of before they get going. France, Italy ..... especially Spain and east bloc countries
have something called "highway robbers" who prey on the unsuspecting tourist. Ok, it's not something for you to lie awake at night about, but
it's defo there and it's worth staying alert. In the 29 years I lived over there, criss crossing the continent going from race track to race track, I,
or one of my group were robbed 3 times. One had her cabrio lifted at gun point on a spanish highway, one had a Ducati lifted at gun point in
a spanish lay by ....... and my bird was attacked by 5 blokes in France whilst I was having a pee in the bushes.
Thats where run flats make me smile ..... it says on BMW's site that "vulnerable woman" no longer have to worry about sitting on the side of the road
with a flat tyre ...... and thats the point. They allow you get to a safe place.
One scam that's happening at the moment is the "flat tyre" in a layby thing ........ ie some ones punctures a tyre whilst you are having a your picnic
and enjoying the scenary ...... and whilst you are busy trying to change it ......... well you can guess the rest.
Hope it doesn't put you off ...... 3 hits in 29 years isn't exactly a lot ..... and I've done zillions of miles trouble free. But its worth keeping your eyes open.
