Well I checked fuse 22 and that was fine.

Measured the voltage on the battery and was getting different readings . It kind of settled on 11.3v with the multimeter and 12v using the code reader.

I’m going to change it but I don’t think it will fix the issue.

Code reader couldn’t communicate with the eps so I think I’m gonna have to take it to a garage.

Does any one know how to check the yaw sensor, I couldn’t find that in the code reader settings?

If the yaw sensor was faulty it should be detected by the code reader, your battery is very low & that can cause many issues to occur :?

When my steering went, I got the same message...could not communicate with EPS.
Where are you based
 
Just had mine done, ECUtesting rebuilt the ecu and motor. Total cost with my mechanic removing and refitting £550
 
Which mechanic did you use.? That price is very reasonable.

I’m based in Canterbury, Kent .

If the New battery doesn’t work, I think that’s the next step

As said above if your going to all the work of replacing the column I would covert it to hydraulic steering, I had electric steering issues twice and replaced my with hydraulic and its so much better.
 
Well I bought a brand new Varta E44 silver battery but same problem.

Weirdly the new battery is only showing 11.4v on my mulitimeter.

Taking it to the garage on thursday to see if their diagnostic machine picks up anything my code reader can't.
 
Mine loses power temporarily when doing a three point turn or parking up when the engine is warm only... annoying to think I could need a new steering column since I’ve only just bought it 2 weeks ago but I can live with it as long as the problem doesn’t get worse :cry:
 
Electric power steering faults are common on a number of cars. I come from the Alfa world and the MiTo suffers but its such a common fault now that rebuilt steering columns can be had for under £200. I'd be surprised if the BMW one couldn't be rebuilt for substantially less than a new column from BMW.
 
I have had issues with the Power Steering on Z4 2.5 US specs and it looks like a voltage drop to the unit, will cause it. When it happens at the start, I just rev the engine for a minute or two and boom all lights go away. Do that before anything else.
 
Still not managed to sort this.

My mechanic tried to remove the motor today but said it can’t be done without removing the steering column which requires a special tool which he doesn’t have.

Tried H&C motors who were absolutely rammed with work .

Can anyone recommend a garage who could remove the motor ?. I’m in Kent but could travel if need be.

It can be done, quite a few have done it, including me. It is a fiddle but it will come out, if you were closer I would help you. Will you send it off to ECU testing ?

Yes the plan was to send to ecu testing and I have prematurely paid them thinking it would come off easily.

The garage couldn’t see that there was access to remove it without removing the column.

They felt it would be straightforward with the column removed but needed a special tool they or other garages didn’t have which locks the column in place

The ref is 32 3 180.

Does anyone know if they are available to buy?
 
You don't need to remove the column, the motor will come out with it in situ. Pity there isn't a forum member nearer to you who has done this, who could help out.
 
Yes, I don’t doubt you.

I’ve emailed Bowser to see if it’s something he can undertake. It’s a fair drive but the car feels ok when on the move, it’s low speeds that are tricky .
