Very impressed with my new Z4 so far.
Difficult to compare like for like to be honest they are that different!
Engine:
More pull mid range than my 3.0si and to be honest it's is what I expected the Z4M to feel like compared to the 3.0si!
Sounds completely different also! A lot deeper in sound and actually a little quieter inside than my coupe on motorway runs.
Ride:
Definatly more comfortable as far as the suspension and seating is concerned. The seats in the coupe were nice but the new one's are more plush. The bolsters are adjustable and they hold you in well, but the seat squabs are more padded. One criticism of the new is that you don't feel as though your are sat "in" the seat squabs. They feel a bit more 3 series than sports car. But they are easier to get out of and I think there will be less wear on the bolsters on these seats because of that over time.
Handling:
A lot smoother on rough roads than my coupe was. A lot less crashy! Steering feel is a lot better also going into corners. Feels more like the Z4M (although theZ4M is still more direct in feel) especially SPORT+ mode.
Interior:
No comparison with the coupe! Big upgrade in the feeling as though you are driving something special. Makes the new M3 look like a Ford KA inside! Nice touch having a leather covered dash also!
Sat Nav (can't compare as I didn't have Nav on my coupe) and media centre is very good and the iDrive and menu's are very easy to use. Like the fact you can rip your CD's and take music from a USB stick onto the vehicles hard drive! I have hit the iDrive control when changing gear mind which has cut off a phone call and changed track! Just getting used to it I guess!
Storage:
More than my coupe. The boot space is less with the roof down, although it suits my needs, but the small netted storage shelf behind the seats is handy. Also there is a small compartment to the right of the steering wheel near the drivers knee that is big enough to hold a wallet or phone. Centre compartment similar to the coupe's bit with 2 cup holders. Compartment hatch at the rear that has small shelves in unless, like me, you have the trough storage bag from the boot. I would have preferred the shelves as I don't ski or play golf!!
A nice touch are the door pockets. They have pull down sides on them that will actually hold anything in them like sun glasses.
Lighting:
I didn't have xenons on my coupe, but these lights are vastly better!! Like the running lights idea where the halo's and the rear lights stay on all the time. This option can be switched off in the iDrive.
I really think the coupe I had and the new Z4 are really two different cars! The coupe was more sports car and the new one more GT. I could easily own both!
Oh, almost forgot! That roof! Very cool! It's also a great car to go topless in! I am liking the roof down feel and the sound of the car is great with the roof down. With the roof up it feels just like a coupe inside. Slight creaks from the roof when it's first put up over bumps, but that goes once the roof settles again.
