My roof is (still) broke!

Yes, yet another roof problem. :( I went to lower the roof using the key and it got about half way and stopped. I had a little prod about and eventually the roof went down. I thought I'd give the car a bit of a run to make sure the battery was charged OK. Once home I attempted to raise the roof and it got halfway. It now doesn't do anything when I push either button. So
this how it looks now. I'm relatively handy with a multimeter so if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. I know there will be numerous threads on this type of issue but we all love a roof problem post... right!? :x :D 20220810_102450.jpg

mine did exactly the same a few weeks ago.
was the hall sensor, right side looking from the boot.
fairly common issue, and i changed the salmon relays at the same time....

Do you have a code reader? first point of call I would suggest..

My first port of call would be to PM RobbiZ4.

BTW hope you get it sorted Steve and hope you are doing OK.

Thanks for the reply. Please can you let me know part no and where you purchased the hall sensor. If it's a cheap and easy fix might be worth just trying it first before delving too deep.

Yes, mine as well.

If there is a hall sensor or microswitch code stored, it usually is a broken wire in the hydraulic harness and NOT the hall sensor!

If no hall sensor code is stored, there was a timeout and exactly this hall sensor (E88 version to buy) has to be replaced.

And please read the following thread

Any recommendations on a scanner?

I have heard this one talked about..... Creator C310+
It's £50 so I don't want to spend more than that.

I did manage to get the roof closed so at least I can drive it now. :)

Belated update as not being too well. (nothing serious). I got a scanner today and it pulls code A68D which appears from info on the Forum probably a broken wire. That is as much as I'm going to do with it now until I'm feeling better.

A68D: Microswitch, roof shell 2 closed, right
But one of it's two wires is broken, not the switch!. All the other wires on the left and right are weak or already broken as well.

A quick update on this.

1. It's still broken
2. I have made it worse. The roof won't latch now and the boot is locked.

As a list of priorities it is way down at the moment but I will end up throwing money at it so the question....
Is there somewhere you good people can recommend I take it to get it sorted? Preferably local i.e. Norfolk and not BMW. :D

Can't help with where to take it Steve, sorry.
Have you considered the cost of a recovery truck plus the labour charges etc, and comparing that with buying RobbiZ4 a plane ticket??
(And this is not meant as a joke either!)

I'll take the chance in driving it. The roof look like it is all the way down but just not latched.

Ah so have you fixed the initial problem then?

Nope. i haven't fixed anything. I think the problem was intermittent at first.
I might have misled about its failed state now. The roof is in the closed position now but it doesn't latch. iDrive tells me that. This means the windows won't come up. Also the boot has locked itself. I just want some recommendations on where to take it. :)
