My poor Z4 :(

i never looked back from my toy tbh

hit 40, bought one for my birthday (last may) yup midlife and all that :D

drove it 300 miles home, loved it, roof down the lot, but i knew it needed an inspection 1, got it done with no problems other than, the inside tyres front where bold, and that i had split the bushings due to the huge alloys on it, so all in all, blew a fortune

ohh yeh wife never talked to me for 2 weeks, unless she shouted at me, i also realized that because it was a second car i had to start from scratch with no claims discount with the insurance policy.

never looked back though :D no regrets yet.. just earache hehe :poke:

just take whats thrown at you, you can't take your money when u r gone :fuelfire:
 
Hi guys, thought as its been a while I'll give a quick update on the Zed.

I'll try to include pics but as its my first time uploading any then I'm not entirely sure how they'll work, here goes....

First off I had to have the damage to the door repaired, it went through insurance in the end using a place that I requested (KJ Rule in St Austell, Cornwall) so I was happy, and I have to say they've done a great job. Here's the damage

I had been told I needed 2 new rear tyres, I decided in the end to actually change all 4 for Kumho non-run flats. I still had 4-5mm on my old Bridgestone fronts so I flogged them on eBay to help cover the cost.

Next up I took the car to Midlands Car Care to have the wheels refurbished. I saw a post from them on Facebook of a set of 3 series wheels done in Shadow Chrome and that was the colour I wanted straight away. Again they've also done a great job, same day turnaround, and Russ was so helpful and willing to answer any questions I had about anything!

Once this was done I needed to sort the rear springs out. This took a bit more time as the missus hates lowered cars (especially after my old Saxo) so took A LOT of convincing, but in the end an Eibach Pro Kit was ordered :)

After reading a couple of how-to's on here I figured 'how hard can it be' to fit them myself? Lesson learned! The rears weren't too bad but took longer than I thought they would. The fronts on the other hand were a nightmare! Between having no mechanical knowledge, a friend letting me down with a set of spring compressors, and a fair amount of rain its needless to say I failed :( Most of the men on the estate I live on helped out in one way or another but in the end we conceded defeat (after getting one strut out in 4 hours!) and I put everything back together. I let a company called Rally Prep in St Columb fit the fronts for me, a really great bunch of guys, done a great job and to top it off they seem to be BMW nuts.

Anyway, here's the finished article as it stands today. I started washing it when it was sunny but it was dull by the time I'd finished so the pics aren't great. I'll try to get some nice beach snaps later or tomorrow if I can which should hopefully show the wheels off more.

Basically the service was done at an indy that used to work on my 1 series, as part of the service they ran a diagnostics and the DME (I'm so embarrassed I hadn't realised this was another name for the ECU!!) kept throwing up a fault code ("2869 RAM check faulty" if this means anything to anyone), they gave me a print out of the report to prove it all.

I'm planning on doing the springs and brakes myself so that shouldn't be too bad.

As for the battery, the car has failed to start twice due to a flat battery but it seems to be because I keep leaving my iPod player thingy plugged into the cigarette lighter so its always drawing current when the engine is off so I've been keeping it unplugged lately which seems to have solved it.

Hopefully the wheels can be refurbed if the cracks aren't too bad but if not then I will look to source some more.

Ideally this would be the perfect time to buy some Eibach springs and replace the wheels for some nice CSLs or something like that but the extra outlay isn't something I can justify when I'm meant to be saving for a house.

Its a good job we love our cars so much sometimes isn't it :D

I would def recommend Eibachs. I bought some very recently and I'm impressed with the ride and stance
 
Yeh I'm loving the Eibach's to be honest, rides better and sits better. Its really odd to sit even lower compared to everything else on the road though!

As for the ECU, I haven't done anything about it to be honest, there's no lights on the dash so I decided to not worry about it. I'm sort of just keeping my fingers crossed just in case though.

Surely if everything is running okay and no lights on the dash it was just a glitch?
 
Looks a lovely clean car well worth the effort to keep and treasure for sometime to come, keep up the good work :thumbsup:
 
Its got to be surely doesn't it, I haven't bothered to have another diagnostics check done to see whether the code comes up again.
 
You said you had some work done in Cornwall? and then u been to midlands wheel centre? where in the country are you? I have a lead thingy if you wanted to check the codes I would be more than happy to do that for you if you're anywhere near notts?
 
I'm pretty sure I have seen your car around, where do you live? I'm in Truro and had someone recommend KJ Rule to me for a 4 wheel alignment recently. I had to have a new drivers door and rear wing after my neighbor reversed off his drive into mine too, Cornwall is a dangerous place for Zeds. Which specialist did you go too? Grampound?
Planning on having my wheels refurbed soon too but will probably use polished wheel co in Wadebridge. Going shadow chrome on the stars (108's) and bright silver on the rims.
 
I moved to Cornwall about 17 months ago Sammy but my family are all still up in Redditch just south of birmingham so I'm up there fairly regularly to pick and choose which companies I want to do what work :wink:

I live in St Columb Major Mark so end up shopping in Truro with the girlfriend quite often so I wouldn't be surprised if you have seen me, I'll keep my eyes peeled for all sterling grey Zeds from now on! Yeh it's JMW in Grampound I used, and will keep taking my car to them for servicing. They're thorough as proved with the list of things they noticed and weren't pushy about trying to get me to have the work done with them. They serviced my 1 series a few times too. Shadow chrome on the 108s will look so good, I'm going to try to convince my mate in Redditch to have his done in it. It would have been polished wheel company I took mine to because I work in Wadebridge, but Midlands Car Care were doing them for £200 with same day service so were £80 cheaper than in Wadebridge so arranged it for a weekend I was in the midlands.
 
My Z goes to JMW too. Just had an Inspection II, brake fluid, diff/gearbox oil and front brakes done there last month. 1st time I had used them but my mate has been taking his 540i there for a while and he is a perfectionist. They told me I have a rear spring gone too and I still need to get it sorted as I have been away with work, haven't decided if I will do it myself or not yet. Thats thev 2nd one in 14k miles and the car has only done 26k! :x

I will give you a wave if I see you. My reg starts Y80 so easily spotted among all the other Sterling Zeds about. :thumbsup:
