My own stupidity - shouldn't have stuck it in

Hi guys

So I stuck something in a bit further than it should really have gone , because it looked like it should go further, and I broke the CD player :headbang:

If I try and insert a CD, the player doesn't grab it and pull it in. The player doesn't recognise a disc if I push one in as far as I can, but it will eject it. Anybody done something similarly stupid and been able to fix it?

The head unit is a black mp3-compatible model, with the aux socket on the dash. If I need to find a replacement from the bay of e, does anyone know whether there is a difference in the units that come from cars that did and did not have aux sockets? I'd hate to get a replacement only to find there is nowhere at the back to plug in my aux socket.

cheers

PS - anyone who uses cd slot mounts for sat nav - be careful! My cd slot mount has worked fine in three cars for a few years now. Until yesterday

Probably not worth opening up to fix so would think a replacement is the best option.

Why not upgrade to something else with more functionality?

My CD player packed in too - would accept the CD but randomly decided not to play them. As suggested above I swapped out the whole player for a JVC with all the toys. I guess a lot depend on whether or not you want to keep the OEM look in the cabin.

Yep, I'd like to keep the clean lines of the OEM look.

There are two generic types of headunits :

- Standard Radio units, manufactured up to March 2004 and are grey in colour and do not play MP3
- Standard Radio units, manufactured after March 2004 and are black and do play MP3
- Navigation Head units, again manufactured up to March 2004 - no MP3
- Navigation Head units, manufactured after March 2004 - black, with MP3.

If you don't have SatNav, you can buy any radio unit from any country. I bought one from the US for £20 including shipping. Don't worry about the language or anything like that and there is no code for the radio so any radio works in any Z4.
