My other car’s a… work in progress… distraction… lost cause?

Good to see you on here Matt. I've been keeping an eye on your project waiting for the big one

Three cars now, what's the plan?

Thanks. Has been a while - hearing Miss Daisy's driver had moved her Zed on I had to pop in for some farewell words [abuse] :)

Not entirely sure - this was a complete impulse purchase on the basis it was complete undervalued. So, I think the recent one, F924, will be restored, what little needs doing, and enjoying as is. The original, D294, will probably find its way onto a track - I may be a little more adventurous with what I attempt now. Plus it may make a good snotter... with some winter tyres.

The Zed, well, that's transport when I have to be sure I'll get from A-B, or look presentable when I arrive. Oddly it has almost become the third car... the others are a little more fun... at the moment. Although certainly don't sound anywhere near as good :D

Actually, I think I remember seeing a post where you'd used PlastiDip, how's that lasted? Ironically it wasn't something I'd heard of but found it when looking around for something on the 924, about the same time I saw the post.

I've used plastidip on my front grills and steering wheel spokes. It holding up well on the grills, not so on the spokes. It might be that it needs a few more coats and also a few coats on the rear just to bond it all together.

What are you considering it for?

Ah, cool.

I've used it on the fuel pump so far - the covering had worn off and the metal was showing signs of corrosion so I cleaned it up and put that one. I was going try it on the trip by the driver's window, but was worried it may peel off - might find something else to use there. It may also go on the battery tray, which can be prone to corrosion.

ADD: and yes, ref the spokes it would probably need to cover round to the inside too. Hope it works out!

I think any area that isn't prone to rubbing of some form will be fine, so your window trim would probably be OK. I have some left so will try my spokes again. If it doesn't I'll probably look at the matt acyrilc I first used on the grills.

just reading this post i am glad there are no cars i want on ebay, having a drink or 2 could have cost me dearly tonight lol

Great to see such a great old car being brought back to life, the 924/944 were a stonking drive in their day, and as you say the unassisted steering on older motors can be a revelation after the numbed-down systems we get now. Dabbling with future or only-just classics like this is so satisfying, sorting jobs yourself and running a car costing a few £k that draws more appreciation than something new

Admire people with the patience to renovate classics that our grandchikdren will be seeing at car shows for years to come.

Not sure how many of my ex's will now still be roadworthy... though expect a few of my cars will ;@

I've been following your updates too Matt, great to see all this. You're a lunatic for buying another one, but in a good way

Yep I agree. Though the new one is a beaut. Quite lovely, paintwork in great condition and interior too.

Heres my brothers girlfriend who lives in the garage. She is his ongoing project!
An Alfa Romeo GTV6. He keeps it in cracking condition.

Farewell words,Matt...surely ur not thinking of leaving the forum/selling the z4,now u have 2 porsches, lol

Been good to see u posting here again, and following this thread also.

The 1st 1 will make a good track car indeed,and the 2nd 1 looks/sounds great.
Look forward to seeing your progress on them.
Hows things anyway,mate...and hope u still enjoy driving the z4,now u are spoilt for choice :D :driving:

Ewazix, Jembo, thanks, the Z4 jobs taught me patience! Lot of fun working on the old car. And it attracts a lot more admiration than I ever got in the Z4, even 7 years ago - people cross the road to come and have a chat when working on it!

Hope it's made sense - the stuff in the blog is starting to get serious now. At last. And yes, the new one is in great condition (interior shot below) and lower milage than the Z4 - thanks in part to the Scottish meets, which were worth every mile!

Carol M, that looks like a good way to spend a few pounds! Has he done a blog for the build?

Ha, thanks for the comments and no, that's not me saying farewell but my part time (now, I guess, full time passenger) > Farewell my love Zed

All is well, spending a lot of time in the garage! See you've managed an upgrade while I've been looking the other way

Great car! I bought one of these back in 1990 - the best 4 cylinder engine I ever had! Silky smooth. And great handling too. Enjoy.

I sold the car years ago, but still have seat raising blocks in the garage - on the off-chance your seats are too low, you're welcome to them!

Good to hear from you mate ... Looking good although I must admit it is a distraction from you getting the zed back upto scotland ... Since your 2010/11,visit the modding has commenced and you need to get yours back up to reclaim its rightful title as the best looking zed at a Z4 Forum Scotland Meet.. Based on today's evidence both Rich and Jax are setting a high standard

Seriously good work with the porkers

Yes, great engines! First one's not so silky smooth... but should be once I've replaced the engine mounts.

Ref the riser blocks, very kind of you... if anything the problem is the seat being too high / wheel too low.

Cheers... not entirely sure that title's ever been mine, but thanks (you may have upset a few people there :o ) Good to hear you guys are still getting the meets in! All going well with yours?

There's sure to be a big meet planned for late-Spring 2013 Matt, perhaps a return to Skye but for 2 nights instead of 1. Something to aim for :)

"full time passenger".....another confirmed forum romance,Matt,or just a continuing one,lol :D

Yes,decided to get an M once and for all. Not going to be doing many mods to this one though...just want to replace the cdv with a Zeckhausen one again, and get a few wee marks/the odd parking ding taken out before a good polish/wax,etc.
Other than that,it will stay pretty standard/no suspension mods,strutbrace/winter wheels/alumn pedalset,etc...as trying to spend less on this 1,haha. Just the M boot mat to get,and an updated satnav disc;and already ftd my stubby ariel :)

Look forward to catching up with u in the future, mate ,as well as reading ur porsche thread
