Ooopss... Paid £8700 for it got quoted £8700 to repair it so got written off. Went into the back of someone doing about 10mph :headbang:

Amazing car handled way better than my Z just leaked alot and as you can see not very strong i think if i had a crash on the motorway i wouldnt be here now!

Crikey. When did this happen?
About six years ago now when the insurance paid out i went and bought a VW Passat and that survived being reversed into and someone driving into the back of me :D

Wow, that's quite an eye opener.

My boss has a VX220 (NA) as a weekend toy. I'd quite like one as a track car.
Mine was an N/A i do miss it could just throw it into corners and wouldnt budge no good as a daily drive the Z4 is much easier to live with

I think that the Elise structure is actually pretty good in a crash, just not to repair, the whole ali tub deforms. A friend survived a pretty horrific 50+40 head on crash in an Elise.

GRP is a quite a good energy absorber, but it doesn't look too pretty when damaged and costs a whole load to repair. The GRP used in the VX and the Early S2 Elises is also really thin compared to the S1 Elises.

I really fancied a VX220 Turbo, but when looking for a new car this time round I went with a bit more comfort and practicality.

Spot on. They look bad because they shatter and don't bend. So many people write theirs off and walk away unscathed. The tub is quite a secure place. Believe me, I know. :D

The clam isn't what protects you, that's the crash structure under the bonnet-yes the bodywork is flimsy but that's why they weigh next to nothing, you can't have it both ways!
