Phew where to start.........

She's 83 next month and just had her stomach removed due to cancer. It went wrong and had to be reopened to correct a leak. Fixed and back in critical care.

She's 60 miles away in hospital and I'm driving there to be with her every day. We're a very small family mum, me and my wife and that's it.

She'll be in for at least the next 2 weeks and all she's bothered about is that we have a good Christmas. She's probably the least self interested person I've ever come across and has always put the needs of others before her own.

I'm not at all religious. If anything I'm anti religion. Yet two total strangers I've met and spoken with have preyed for her. One Catholic the other Muslim. She's doing well after two bouts of major surgery.

Not really sure why I've posted this I guess I want some sort of record.

Really really sorry to hear this mate, most sincerely. Being with her is all that you both want I'm sure. Find comfort from perhaps knowing she is being looked after well....

Try and do all you can and remember lots of good times you've had and whatever time you have together, fill hers and your time with love.

Big man hug mate

Some times it just good to get it off your chest, I hope she make a good recovery. I lost my lovely mum 7 years ago from stomach cancer and although in great pain, she was always more worried about how your life was, that's mums for you.

Hi bluespit, you're doing the right thing by trying to see your mum as often as you can-I hope she's out of hospital soon.

As everyone has said, do keep up the visiting - you can't see her enough and despite what she's saying, I bet she realy looks forward to you visits.

I'm not religious either, but my thoughts are with your Mum for a quick recovery.

Best wishes to you and your mum mate. Sometimes you just need to tell somebody.
She sounds like a real gem, a bit like my own mum.
Chester lad eh ? I'll be spending Christmas just down the road in Bromborough

Glad you posted - made me think about my mum a bit as well

Hope all continues to improve and that you, your mum and your wife have a peaceful Christmas and a good new year.

Hope your Mum is soon on the mend. I'm sure she treasures the time you spend with her.

Funnily enough my Mum used to leave near Chester in a suburb called Upton and indeed I was born there nearly 56 years ago!

many thanks for all the above, just got back and although she's physically improving her spirit is very low and she's worried it will all go wrong again.

Hospital is very good and the level of care is outstanding

I'll see what tomorrow brings

thanks again folks

How stressful for you. It's never easy but somehow, this time of year seems worse. Keep your spirits up and look after mum.

I think one of the best things about this forum, is that it's like a large family, where you can voice your feelings and you will find support in return. It's also small enough to care for individuals with very few trolls to ruin it for everybody else

As the big pussycat above stated, wishing you and your family well and hope your old Mum makes a speedy recovery

Just got home from todays visit. Physically she's on the mend but she looks like a broken woman! Not her at all

many thanks for all the above messages, they do help

Hopefully she'll be a little more positive tomorrow as she's moved into a new room with a window to look out of - small thing but a step forward for her

The shock of being out of your usual environment can not be underestimated and I would expect her to improve a lot more when she is back in her familiar home.
