For those of you who showed an interest here's a link to the dealer selling my old 911 Targa.

It was a lovely thing but still happy with my choice :D

Very nice, any chance of a few paras comparing the two. I've always though the Zed was faster, but interested to hear from an ex 911 perspective.

Thanks for the kind words chaps... in a perfect world I'd have both

As requested though, and after a few weeks of Z4M ownership some perspective on a comparison between the two. The 911 was of roughly the same value as the Z but thats at 5 years older (it was a '02)and this showed sometimes, particularly with the rather dated interior and the lack of the level of tech toys that we take for granted these days. At that age, and continuing up until '04 you are in a 996. The 997 which followed looks and feels a lot more modern but there is a real jump in price to a min of £25k for something decent so well out of range to be a fair comparison to the Z.
Despite its age the Porsche still turned heads, though I don't know what you guys think, but I think the Z turns just as many and most of my friends and family have commented that they prefer the Z. The driving experience in a 911 is unique with a rear wheel drive push sensation like you get in no other car with the weight all at the back. Indeed the front can sometimes feel over light when your pushing on and it demands a different driving style where you need to brake and turn in simultaneously to shift some weight distribution to the front to help the tyres grip. I'm far from a driving god but my driving style when pushing on in the Z (as was in my old TVR) follows the simple principle of doing one thing at a time i.e. brake... steer...power.
I've always liked the design of the Z, particularly in Coupe form, and think its more striking than the 911. I feel more of a sense of occasion driving the Z which always feels special where as in the 911 when you were pottering around in traffic you might as well have been driving a VW.

Sorry I'm no Clarkson but to some up... would I have another 911? Absolutely, but not until I could afford a newer one :driving:

That's very interesting - I've often though of a 911 but like open top cars too much and can't get on with the Cabs looks. Your post has made me realise that aim not missing out at this stage - I think it will be something for the future.

Thanks for posting
