Is it not possible to relocate the cigarette lighter, as I never use the ashtray that area could become a little cubby?

I guess you could relocate the lighter but will also have to delete the door opening gear works to have enough room for sun glasses

Is that a normal glasses case ur securing to the under dash aux panel. Leave word if it works. Good idea

It's a sunglass case I found on Amazon that is suppose to replace the overhead hold handle on a Volkswagen, I really have no idea of it's size so I'm waiting to have it in hand before deciding which way to go. I've got two different ideas on how to go about this but both will mean cutting into the panel and using the space behind it.

It looks to be about 1-1/2" clearance at the top of the panel where the heat and air switches are mounted then it opens up at the back of the switches. I'm pretty confident the 1-1/2" space will be fine to house the lens of the glasses with the ear pieces swinging up in the area which opens up.

The lack of accessible storage from the drivers seat is one of my big gripes with the Z4. You can't reach the glove box or rear storage box, and although the centre console looks cool it's completely useless. Would it really have been so hard to include a small flat area like this that most other BMWs have?

I agree things are pretty tight in the Z4, and I do use the center console for storage but its for things I don't need to reach every time I get in or out of the car, I just think this spot is some wasted space that can be useful so why not use it.

You could try an arm rest from www.leatherz.com - hefty import charges though. The accompanying cubby hole is great but still not big enough for my Serengeti sunglasses case !

I saw where this armrest had been talked about before on the forum, but I ride with the seat leaned back and moved back and down as far as possible which makes the existing armrest height perfect for me. That along with how it mounts over the E-brake made me decide not to go that route.

But I did think about a another storage spot. I was thinking if you used the door armrest pads from leatherz, built some hinges that swung up and placed a tray down into the armrest cavity it might have possibilities.

This is interesting. I tried fitting a dashboard storage thingy from the new BMWs. Its the right length and would probably fit for depth. But.....its just too high by about 1.5cm. Bummer as it would have been ideal, doesnt seem like I can cut it up to fit either.

What is the storage part you were trying to fit? Have you got a picture or part number?

The thing I tried fitting was picked up on ebay. Listed as BMW Z4 2010 DASHBOARD BOX BLACK LEATHER. Its not the muckle thing on the X3s. The depth would be fine but the height makes it too big. If I can work out how to do photos Ill take one. I was going to cut a hole in the dash to put it in but I think there is a trim piece I would need to get. So went off that idea.
