My next mod, a Sunglass Case

Ok, I'm tired of scratching up my sunglasses throwing them in the door pocket or hanging them off the sun visor. Just tacky for a company like BMW to sell cars without a proper sunglass case designed into their car. Yeah I know you coupe drivers have your little holder for small glasses, but I like the super dark cheap sunglasses ZZ Top sang about.

I've had Ray Ban's, and Oakley's, I guess their nice, but my favorite ones are Pugs wrap a rounds with black shades!

So I've been looking around the cockpit of my Roadster trying to figure out a place they could have placed a sunglass holder and I think I've found one. Under the Heating/Air controls there is a snap in panel where the AUX port is mounted. Behind that snap in panel there seems to be a big enough space to house the type of case I want to build so I've ordered some parts and I'm going to try to mock up a design that will hold a proper set of shades.

would something like this fit in the gap?

What about retro fitting an empty first aid box under the drivers seat and using that. There is ac thread somewhere about it being done.

+1 A cheap and easy mod and is perfect to store your sun glasses

although not quite as nifty as your position there was a thread about using the space under the drivers seat to put in an empty first aid kit drawer and line it with velvet - might be under the passenger seat in your case.

Under the seat doesn't really appeal to me.

Inspired, I have just ordered some bits to give this a go myself.

yeah under the seat is not ideal, what about modifying the cup holder? that way you press the button and your sunglasses come out - now that would be very j bond!!

In my coupe I have a sun glass case in the roof behind the interior light. It's very handy :P 8)

A bare hook was all that was required - no need for bait even :poke:
Joking aside, I had one in my Hyundai Coupe and it was a brill option - can't believe a car like the Roadster leaves you to store them rattling around in the side pockets
Not even easy to get them out when driving - like the cup holder idea - never use mine for intended purpose

Well I've ordered these two items along with some polycarbonate plastic sheets and plastic welding rods.

I'm planning to cut an opening into the panel and form a box that will fit in the cavity behind the panel then weld it to the back of the panel. I'm not sure how much I will have to modify the case, but I will see when it comes in.

Is that a normal glasses case ur securing to the under dash aux panel. Leave word if it works. Good idea

The lack of accessible storage from the drivers seat is one of my big gripes with the Z4. You can't reach the glove box or rear storage box, and although the centre console looks cool it's completely useless. Would it really have been so hard to include a small flat area like this that most other BMWs have?

Is it not possible to relocate the cigarette lighter, as I never use the ashtray that area could become a little cubby?

You could but it's a stupid shape and very shallow so you can't put anything else in it anyway. I've tried putting my iphone in it, just falls out.
