My new toy!

Evening all,

I've already posted some very average pics under the general section when I changed from my 3.0i to my lovely new ///M, but now I have stopped driving it for long enough to clean it I though I would post some proper pics here.

Its a 2007 Z4MR with 29,000 on the clock, extended black nappa leather, carbon leather dash, sat nav, bluetooth and business (6 speaker) stereo. The deciding factor on this one, other than the guy who was selling it clearly being an enthusiast, was that it still had BMW warranty, which I have just extended for a further year.

now to the exciting stuff:

i wasn't massively keen on the spoiler in the ad but love the look of it now. At the risk of getting flamed I'm not a fan of the Stubby but have swapped on to this one the Mini OEM Aerial that i had on my 3.0i. It looks identical to the stock Z4 aerial but not as large...

I wavered for ages on whether to buy the ///M as I had owned the 3.0i for 5 years and was worried that when sat in the daily commute it wouldn't feel like being in a new car, but held out for one with the carbon dash and extended leather as thought it was different enough (my 3.0i has the ali dash). having scoured the used car market there really wasn't anything else on the market (or within budget!) that interested me. now i have it the cars are poles apart and everything about it feels totally fresh and exciting.

I picked it up for £16,000 and this left me a bit left over for some mods...I'm definitely upgrading the hifi (big thanks to Th30d0r3 for his awesome write up http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24956&p=348349#p348349 i will be shamelessly copying this!) and i am looking at changing the alloys http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29383&p=400824#p400824 I did have my heart set on the M6 with a BBK but having been quoted £650+VAT per rim plus rubber i might be heading back to the drawing board on this one!

I've got my first track day booked in it on 13th August at Bedford if any of you guys are about it would be great to hook up with other owners and pick up any other mod tips..

and i am absolutely over the moon with it! It's by far the best car i've owned and well worth the three month wait looking for the right one!

Very nice  Enjoy the soundtrack.

i'm starting to wonder if i need to bother upgrading the stereo as the engine sounds awesome, but if i want to keep my licence maybe i should...

p.s. your avatar it terrifying!

Congrats... Looks like you got a really nice Z4MR...

I can vouch for Hertz speakers... Had them in a previous car... Absolutely brilliant speakers.

If you are going to track your Z4MR regularly you should seriously consider a BBK... OE brakes are not really up to track work.

Enjoy your new ride, hope to meet you on one of my North Hampshire Runs, keep an eye on events & meets :)

Nice looking car. Enjoy. Why bother upgrading the stereo when you have a 6 cylinder orchestera under the bonnet :D

Very nice, the extended leather is so tasty :D
Looks great! If I'm correctly informed you can not fit a wind deflector when you have extended leather on the roll bars?

it has the wind deflector fitted as standard, not sure how they did it but looks mint and fits over the leather.

i'm a bit of a track neewb to be honest. i tracked the 3.0i a couple of times on the introductory evenings with CLub MSV but now i have the M i want to get on the track at least 3 or 4 times a year. i've looked through the BBK threads but am a bits lost as those members who have upgraded them seem to know an awful lot more than i! any recomendations? i've read a lot about the AP kit and KSport but seems the consensus is not to go for Ksport...

i already have the OEM front strut brace and looking at fitting the shim kit : http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-9...g-arm-bushing-limiter-kit-rtab-shim-kit.aspx.

i'm booked on 13th for a full day with tuition (i dont want to wrap it!!) - any pre track day pointers gratefully received :driving:

K-sports seems good value for the money... Some people say they are good, other people don't. Better to do your own search about them and make your own conclusion. Personally; I would not cut down on something important like brakes and I would only buy something from a high end manufacturer. I also do a couple of track days a year and my oem brakes (+ discs) needed replacement, so I ordered a full AP BBK. I did a lot of research and can honestly and did not found any negative owners review. Only downside; they are not cheap. You can always start with a oem brake upgrade (other pads, racing brake oil and steel brake linings).

The link does not go directly to the product. What is a shim kit?

Sorry wrong link. Here's where I meant to link to
http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-9...ng-arm-bushing-limiter-kit-rtab-shim-kit.aspx
Basically the shim kit reduces bushes deflection. Was recommended to me by a mate of mine as easy mod without sacrificing daily ride quality

Thanks for the other links will have a look :driving:

Looks very nice, dont think the M6 alloys are the right decision though. :)

I'm starting to think I might leave the stock rims on for a while and sort the other bits and bobs out so will hold fire on my decision...

For a BBK AP it seems to be the preferred choice - excellent quality & reputable brand. Stoptech is also excellent and a leader in their field but more expensive than AP and with fewer UK dealers.

You won't go wrong with either TBH, but as has been said when it comes to brakes go for a long established market leader. It will cost you a fair bit but you do get what you pay for with brakes... It is the best mod I have made to mine - No question

If you are not pushing that hard on the track right now it could well be a mod that can wait until you are. Meanwhile uprating pads, fluid and brake lines could well be sufficient for now. Lots of options for fast road/track use pads, Pagid RS29 rock but not sure if they come in a fitment for OE callipers, costly but pretty much the ultimate road legal tack pad. Ferodo DS2500 I have used on previous cars with good results, they can squeel a bit if not consistently used hard though, however they are kind on the discs! Am sure others on here will have other recommendations.

As for brake fluid, get a brake fluid with a high boiling point, I am currently using Motul RBF660 and am very satisfied. Castrol SRF is mega but costs about £50 per 1l

Looks lovely in black... congrats

As others have said, I'd avoid M6 alloys on a Zed... they really only suit the M5/M6 IMO. Can't go wrong with a set of CSLs :D
