Yes, this was hand-built by a local muffler expert here in Dallas. He used two Magnaflow shorty mufflers and welded both the flanges and the tips onto the mufflers. Because of him welding the flanges onto the mufflers themselves, I can now revert back to stock with ease if necessary.
The sound of this exhaust is
very deep. He started the car without any mufflers at all and revved it a few times. My ears were ringing afterwards. But with the Magnaflows, the volume was brought down a tad and now has a very deep bass-like tone. It sounds absolutely perfect, IMO. Not too noisy but will definitely turn heads when you get on it. No ricer-boy fart can exhaust noise here, just pure European motoring sound.
This setup cost a little more than half of the RPi axle-back system. Parts and labor included. The tips were the most expensive ones they had but once I saw them I knew I had to have them. They are staggered, slash-cut, and chromed. What's not to like?
Regarding video, I've not had a chance to get a properly recorded video. I'll try and get a helper to assist me with that request. Stay tuned!
OH, one more important note. With the stock mufflers installed, I always felt the torque drop at around 7500rpm. This can also be seen on dyno graphs for stock Z4M's. However, after installing this exhaust, that torque drop is no longer felt. I assume by installing a free-flowing exhaust, it allows more power to be made in the upper rpm's. Whatever the case may be, this was a huge plus for me as I always hated that torque drop, so much so, that I would usually shift at around 7000rpm just so I wouldn't have to feel it. Don't have to worry about that anymore!!!
