Thanks for the welcome Coupe guys, and gals 
I hear what you are saying bmwangler, I use to have a 2.5 SE which I loved and drove any oportunity with the top down once even after it had snowed on a sunny day. When I replaced her I wanted something a bit different otherwise only feels you have 1/2 a new car which is why i considered the boxster but eventually went off that idea. So my choice was buy a 3.0si roadster, with more power than my 2.5 but looking virtually identical or go for a coupe so at least it made it feel like a different car. The red interior helps as it's very different from the black I had before, plus the M steering wheel makes it feel different to drive. I must say I have noticed the additional rigidity of the chassis and the steering feels more direct plus sports suspension changes the feel slightly.
All in all I'm well chuffed, only time will tell next spring if I start missing the top down option
