My lord, perhaps I shouldn't have specced the dynamic shocks

Wow, just out of curiosity I took a look online for the price of new shocks on the e89... given the pounding they take.

Standard shocks (SE / M Sport) £131
Dynamic shocks (as I have, and 35iS has) £355

EACH!

Ouch!! Fingers crossed you don't have to replace them!!

I hate the state of our road network. It actually gets me down its getting worse. And i don't see it getting better any time soon. We will all need 4x4s soon!!

oh pants! thats a cost i hadnt thought about when i went 35is........... should have gone 28i............ who am i kidding. Sod the cost i love the noise of this engine, if it costs me £355 each then so be it, its probably nothing when compared to the extra fuel the 6 pots burn over the 4 bangers

Given the reports on the 4 pots, the difference isn't as much as you might think...

I get 25 knocking around. Some guys on the 20i are getting 30mpg knocking around... its better yes, but not startlingly so...

Perhaps there's a danger of starting another MPG thread, but I must drive like a complete old fart as I'm getting high 30s MPG most of the time. Admittedly that's mostly A and B road and not much crawling in city traffic. I think my worst was 34 MPG... :?

Funnily enough I did a little experiments today.

My normal daily commute is 12 miles each way and I am getting roughly 30 mpg (sometimes slightly less).

Today I had a longish drive down the A1. Outbound I thrashed the car a bit at speeds not mentionable and got 29mpg.

On the way back I put the cruise control on and set it at 70mpg. I then joined the m62 and hit the infamous 50mph zone. As I pulled off the motorway the computer was registering 52mpg. I drove through Bradford and home, by that time the computer was saying 44mpg.

It would appear that BMW's mpg claims are valid.

Two points to note, I have a 2.0 and it was by far the most boring drive of my life.

I can't remember the last time I had to change a shocker!

Decent car manufactures tend to fit good kit to the vehicles they produce.

If I hadn't had all sorts of problems with this BMW, I'd have found some comfort in that.

You have it well sorted now tho?

My experience with a "dud" was a Ford Fiesta supersport way back in 1980! It was our first brand new car and was a problem from day one -£4911 it cost me!
That was the last car that had a shocker (strut) change.
First new car and the last Ford I will ever buy, no matter how they have improved.

Oh how I wish I could say yes... There remains the odd oscillation on certain roads which I'm having looked at on the 6th. A rattle from the exhaust flap at start up (hence GolfT mod), and a loud creaking from the rear deck (which I've located and need some nice weather to fix). Minor things in the grand scope, but its still ongoing, 3 years in. Knowing my luck if I sold it, the next car would have its own suite of issues, so I'm 50/50 on moving on presently.

I'd be interested to know the location/solution for the creaking rear deck. I have to say my car is pretty well screwed together in terms of trim but every now and then I'll get a loud 'creak' or 'crack' from the rear deck. It's the sort of thing I wouldn't want to fiddle with for fear of making it worse but if there's something specific I can look at...

More niggles than faults tho?

My Ford dud was a real DUD!
From memory, Respray, Clutch, Strut, Carburetor, then at 22k and two years old the centre main bearing gave up!

No more of Mr Fords' products for me.

Yes Niggles. Thanks to my need to have things just so, I know these cars like the back of my hand now. Roof mechanisms, trims, equipment, you name it. As for roof creaks, yes, I know them all and know how to solve them. I should set myself up in business for the amount of people that have asked my help ;)

I think the price for the adaptive dampers was really good. Had thought it was much more expensive than that :)
