oh pants! thats a cost i hadnt thought about when i went 35is........... should have gone 28i............ who am i kidding. Sod the cost i love the noise of this engine, if it costs me £355 each then so be it, its probably nothing when compared to the extra fuel the 6 pots burn over the 4 bangers

Perhaps there's a danger of starting another MPG thread, but I must drive like a complete old fart as I'm getting high 30s MPG most of the time. Admittedly that's mostly A and B road and not much crawling in city traffic. I think my worst was 34 MPG... :?
Funnily enough I did a little experiments today.
My normal daily commute is 12 miles each way and I am getting roughly 30 mpg (sometimes slightly less).
Today I had a longish drive down the A1. Outbound I thrashed the car a bit at speeds not mentionable and got 29mpg.
On the way back I put the cruise control on and set it at 70mpg. I then joined the m62 and hit the infamous 50mph zone. As I pulled off the motorway the computer was registering 52mpg. I drove through Bradford and home, by that time the computer was saying 44mpg.
It would appear that BMW's mpg claims are valid.
Two points to note, I have a 2.0 and it was by far the most boring drive of my life.

My experience with a "dud" was a Ford Fiesta supersport way back in 1980! It was our first brand new car and was a problem from day one -£4911 it cost me!
That was the last car that had a shocker (strut) change.
First new car and the last Ford I will ever buy, no matter how they have improved.

Oh how I wish I could say yes... There remains the odd oscillation on certain roads which I'm having looked at on the 6th. A rattle from the exhaust flap at start up (hence GolfT mod), and a loud creaking from the rear deck (which I've located and need some nice weather to fix). Minor things in the grand scope, but its still ongoing, 3 years in. Knowing my luck if I sold it, the next car would have its own suite of issues, so I'm 50/50 on moving on presently.

Yes Niggles. Thanks to my need to have things just so, I know these cars like the back of my hand now. Roof mechanisms, trims, equipment, you name it. As for roof creaks, yes, I know them all and know how to solve them. I should set myself up in business for the amount of people that have asked my help
