So after only 1,353 days i finally made my 3,000 posts (2.2 posts per day) I know; paltry when compared to our premier league stars, Bing, Carol and of course the Lionel Messi of the Forum.... Jonny Essex.
Why a Zed?
Had not been looking for one, had not considered one. Just resigned from my job and moving into a better paid one. My old job had a company car, the new one a car allowance with no criteria attached. In fact it was Mrs M who spotted it and claimed "oh, i always wanted one of them", "it has pop up headlights and everything". Once she got over the disappointment of the pop up thingy it was off to Wood BMW Salisbury to take a look. I had no knowledge of the car the engine options etc, but there in front of me was a gleaming black beauty.

Quick test drive and deal done.
For a year it was my daily drive and I have to say loved every minute. Then Mrs M took redundancy and set up her own business, need another car now. So back to BMW and as you can imagine a warm welcome from the same salesman when we announced "we would like to buy another car". This time a 120d coupe, which is great car.
Then comes the crapiest wettest summer of all time and the car spends more time under cover than covering the miles. By this time another BMW (320d touring) had found it's way into the stable so the zed became the pure weekend car and only covered 1,000 miles in 12 months.
By now we are in late 2012 and have a baby on the way, dilemma..... Car is going to get even less use now
So keep it wrapped up warm during the winter ready to sell in the spring. Couple of false starts by eventually it found a new home in Chester although not a forum member and I've not seen it pop up in any pics or signatures.

It was a great car and thoroughly enjoyed my ownership.
The negative bits.
It was the lower powered 2.5 engine, would have been nice to have a bit more poke
The roof motor failed, took a lot of back and forth, eventually BMW paid up, but left a bitter taste
I joined the broken spring club
The better bits
Gap tech remote hood worked a treat
Monkey's exhaust tips
Would I have another..... you betcha, but with some changes. It would either have to be M Coupe and only white or serpang bronze, so may have to wait a while. Or it would be an e89 onwards as I do not want a fabric hood again.
And finally to you motley bunch, this has to be the friendliest bunch of people you are ever likely not to meet. I have never met any you but feel like old friends, this forum is like the best local pub (minus the beer), you will always know someone, there are friends, casual acquaintances and of course Knob heads.
There is flirting, fighting and good humoured banter. Strangers are welcomed and soon become part of the furniture, some last some don't, but everyone has a shared passion in what they drive.
I will certainly be here for a while, but maybe in the back room with those who like to reminisce about the good old days.
Gone but never forgotten
